The Position:
Reporting to the VP Technology Operations, the Database Administrator is part of a team composed of system engineers and administrators responsible for the architecture, build, design and maintenance of Gilt Groupe’s database infrastructure. The DBA will be responsible for supporting the development, testing, and production environments for Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres and other relational databases.

The Database Administrator (DBA) works closely with business owners, engineers and application development teams during the analysis and design phases of the Software Development Life Cycle. The DBA participates in the development and definition of processes to ensure solutions are consistent with the business strategies. The DBA analyzes and tunes hardware/software configurations, automates existing manual processes, and identifies improvements to our existing relational database systems.

Key will be the ability to adapt to a highly nimble business environment, this means using technical skills and experience to make the right decision, quickly. Personal and team accountability will be fundamental to your success in this role. Establishment and evolution of key metrics, ranging from operational to relevant business insight is critical to success.

Ownership of operational stability for existing PostgreSQL, Oracle, & MSSQL instances.

Work closely with business owners to ensure best possible resource utilization while ensuring system performance

Work with development teams to translate logical data model to physical data model

Design and produce on engineering efforts to ensure operational excellence across the fleet

Research, test and lead in the adoption of new technologies and approaches that improve database performance, stability and resource utilization

Responsible for and assists in the troubleshooting and resolution of infrastructure problems escalated to the Storage and Systems support team.

Performs application profiling, capacity planning, workload modeling and forecasting on systems and storage.

Designs, prepares and conducts new technology evaluations to determine database solutions based on business requirements and makes recommendations for improvement of operational capability, reliability and performance.

Analyzes the performance of Gilt’s database systems against current needs and planning for needed improvements.

Ensures optimal system and storage configuration and provisioning through engineering health checks and engagement of storage / system vendors as required.

Responsible for reporting of system and storage allocation, usage trends, I/O performance and bottleneck analysis
