Milwaukee, Wisc. authorities shot an armed man inside a children's hospital Thursday while carrying out a warrant for his arrest.

The suspect, who authorities identify as 22-year-old Ashanti Hendricks, was wanted on a felony warrant. According to WISN, he was spotted sometime before noon in the neonatal intensive care unit of the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. That's when things took a dramatic turn.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke: "The officers identified the individual who was holding his baby, or holding a baby at the time. ... He put the baby down and appeared to want to cooperate. ... He then fled down the hallway and while fleeing produced a handgun." (Via WTMJ)

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports officers fired several shots and Hendricks was hit in the wrist, though he did not fire any shots at law enforcement. He continued trying to escape until officers wrestled him to the ground and took him into custody.

The hospital was on lockdown for nearly two hours and was given the all clear around 2 p.m. (Via Twitter / @childhealthwi)

Hendricks was the only one injured in the shooting and was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Hendricks' relation to the baby he was holding is unknown, but WITI reports neither the baby nor the baby's mother were injured.
