Remember Eliot Spitzer?

“Our greatest glory consists not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.” (Via KASW)

The former New York governor resigned in 2008 following a prostitution scandal.

That’s when we learned — he was client number 9, and had spent as much as $80,000 on extramarital affairs.

But he’s gonna give politics another go: announcing a bid for New York City comptroller. (Via Twitter / @SpitzerForNYC)

“People get second chances. I hope New Yorkers will understand first i'm asking forgiveness for what led to my resignation.”

Now here’s the crazy part: If he gets on the ballot — he could face off against Kristin Davis — an ex-madam who went to prison for a few months for her association with a high-end escort service and claims she provided him with the hookers.

Her campaign website describes her as a feminist, entrepreneur and businesswoman.

So yea — there’s irony for you. The man who resigned after an escort scandal makes his comeback in a race against a former escort.

She told The New York Daily News: “This is going to be the funnest campaign ever... I’ve been waiting for my day to face him for five years.”

Only in New York — where this is actually not the only strange political comeback story.

But as for the voters — New Yorkers are so far mixed about the idea of Spitzer back in politics

“If the people of New York feel like he is up for it, why not. It is crazy he would try.”

The former governor has until Thursday to get 3,700 signatures on a petition to even get on September’s ballot.
