Sunday night’s Grammys are being called a ‘surprise, surprise’ show -- where winner after winner did not fit predictions.
The Black Keys were the big winners of the night with four statues. In a surprise upset, Fun beat Frank Ocean for Best New Artist, Gotye won Record of the Year and Mumford & Sons got Album of the Year. As Marcus Mumford put it...
“We figured we weren’t going to win anything because The Black Keys have been sweeping up all day, rightfully so...” (quote via Washington Post)
But even though The Black Keys topped the night, the wins were pretty spread out -- not the Adele sweep of last year’s show. But as it is with awards shows -- it’s often not just the awards that get people talking. The show’s dress code was much-buzzed about on the red carpet -- and even on stage.
J LO: “As you can see I read the memo.”

And a big comeback from Justin Timberlake -- he took the Grammys stage again for the first time in years with Jay-Z to perform the hit single Suit and Tie
BEYONCE: “Ladies and gentleman, get up on your feet right now.”
ELLEN: “Right now.”
BEYONCE: “Back on the stage, our friend. The great Justin Timberlake!”

And some old-school big names took the stage -- Elton John, Sting, Prince.

But in a classier move, toward the end of the night The Band’s Levon Helm received a much-deserved tribute from an amazing ensemble. Mumford and Sons, Elton John, Zac Brown, Brittany Howard, Mavis Staples and T-Bone Burnett all came together.
LL Cool J hosted and then closed the show, but rather than a classy but overdone speech he did what he does best... Rock the Bells with a little help from Public Enemy’s Chuck D.
