Whether it is about what happened with King Khan at the Wankhede Stadium or his spat with Salman Khan, it is pretty much a known fact that Shah Rukh Khan has quite a talent when it comes to courting controversies. Though we really appreciate SRK’s witty side on twitter, he has a colourful list of controversies.
Shah Rukh Khan & Foetal Sex Determination
In 2013, there were speculations that Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan went in for sex determination test for their third baby ‘Abram Khan’. The Maharashtra government did order a probe into the allegations, but later found out the couple were not at fault.
Shah Rukh Khan & Pakistan
In an interview to a political-socio journal, Shah Rukh Khan stated that sometimes he become an inadvertent object of political leaders. Reacting to his statement, Lashkar-E-Taiba founder, Hafiz Saeed, said that Shah Rukh will be welcomed in Pakistan, where he will have the freedom to live for as long as he wants. He also said that he will be respected in Pakistan. Later, Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Rehman Malik asked the Indian government to provide security to superstar.
Shah Rukh Khan & Shiv Sena
King Khan faced another controversy when Shiv Sena tore off posters of ‘My Name Is Khan’ in Thane. The act happened in protest against Shah Rukh’s statement that Pakistani cricketers should be allowed to participate in Indian Premier League (IPL). The owner of Kolkata Knight Riders team, Shah Rukh Khan reacted on Twitter saying, “Sad my statements are seen as a stand against a group instead of a stand for myself and my individuality. Differences in ideology should be grounds for debates & discussion. A must for freedom of thought. To see it any other way is so unfortunate.”
Shah Rukh Khan & Wankhede Stadium
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officials have lodged a police complaint against Shah Rukh Khan, Kolkata Knight Riders’ co-owner, for his alleged misbehaviour at the Wankhede Stadium. “He misbehaved and abused the MCA security personnel as well as MCA officials, including our president Vilasrao Deshmukh, after the IPL match,” said MCA secretary Nitin Dalal.

The ugly spat between the Khans at Katrina Kaif’s birthday party was the top headline of 2008. According to reports, SRK made inappropriate comments about Salman’s ex-flame Aishwarya Rai Bachchan which annoyed him. In 2011, on Koffee With Karan, SRK publicly apologised to the actor saying: “If Salman is angry with me, it is 100% my fault.” However, Salman retorted saying SRK’s apology was for TRPs. And finally they hugged each other at Congress leader Baba Siddique’s Iftar party hinting at a patch up.
Shah Rukh Khan & Priyanka Chopra
Family man Shah Rukh Khan has found himself in a link-up controversy with actress Priyanka Chopra. This was quite a surprise coming from an ideal father. While SRK is maintaining a dignified silence over the issue, the Fashion star lost it and said with a straight face “By being extremely loud, doesn’t mean I’ll answer your questions sir. Thank You,” when a reporter asked her about her alleged link-up.
The controversy started when Priyanka went to visit him at SRK’s office at three in the morning. A lot of eyebrows and speculations were rife about the two dating each other. Even there were reports of Gauri avoiding Priyanka and also former snubbed PC on an event when she went to greet her.
Shah Rukh Khan-Big B-Amar Singh
At an awards function in 2007, Shah Rukh Khan allegedly supported the event organisers when Amar Singh objected to the fact that front row seats were not allotted to him and close friend Amitabh Bachchan.

While promoting TV debut Satyamev Jayate, Aamir Khan praised his co-workers who made it big on TV. He took the name of Amitabh Bachchan for Kaun Banega Crorepati, Hrithik Roshan for Just Dance and Salman Khan for Dus Ka Dum, but he simply forgot to mention Shah Rukh, who has hosted shows like KBC, Zor Ka Jhatka and Kya Aap Panchvi Paas Se Tez Hain. When media asked about SRK, he ignored the question.
Before this, Aamir had posted on his blog that a dog called Shah Rukh was licking his legs, “Shah Rukh is licking my feet and I am feeding him biscuits every now and then. What more can I ask for? Now, before you jump to any conclusions let me add that Shah Rukh is the name of our dog. And before you jump to any further conclusions let me add that I had nothing to do with naming him. In fact Shah Rukh is the dog of the caretakers of our house.”
Shah Rukh Khan & Shirish Kunder
At Sanjay Dutt’s Agneepath bash, the Dilwale actor allegedly assaulted Farah Khan’s husband and filmmaker Shirish Kunder. Later, Farah Khan SMSed reporters, “Shahrukh has always told me that physical abuse is the worst way 2 sort out a problem, n that its means the person who’s hitting has either a personal or professional crisis going on, n it saddens me 2 see him doing the same (sic).”
However, the truce happened after Shirish and Farah, along with Sajid Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala went to SRK’s home.
Shah Rukh Khan & Abhijeet Bhattacharya
Abhijeet Bhattacharya is not always in news only because of his tweets, he blasted in an interview saying Shah Rukh Khan should apologise to him for not giving him due credit in Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om.
When a tabloid asked Shah Rukh Khan to comment on what Abhijeet said, SRK quipped, “Isn’t it a coincidence that whoever doesn’t want to work with me becomes famous?”
Shah Rukh Khan & Airport
In August 2009, Shah Rukh Khan was detained at the Newark Airport in New Jersey for nearly two hours because of his last name. Khan was going to attend a South Asian event where he was the guest of honour. He was released only after Congress MP Rajiv Shukla spoke to the authorities in the US.
Again he was detained in April at a New York airport by immigration officials after arriving from India in a private plane with Nita Ambani. This time he was going to address students at Yale University. While Nita, wife of Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, and the rest of their group were cleared immediately, Khan was stopped and was given immigration clearance only after about two hours.
When media asked Raees star, he laughed it off with a generous dose of sarcasm, “Whenever I start feeling too arrogant, I always take a trip to America. The immigration guys kicked the star out of stardom.”

In 2009, Sunil Gavaskar and Kolkata Knight Riders’ owner Shah Rukh Khan had a dirty war of words. In his column for the daily, Gavaskar termed John Buchanan (coach of KKR) a “failed former cricketer making a living telling international players to do what he couldn’t do.”

Post the Mumbai terror attacks in 2012, Shobhaa De said, “I read ‘Shah Rukh Khan’s on BBC Asia’ with a great deal of disappointment. The report begins by quoting him stating, “I tried to keep away from commenting on all this…” He later goes on to say, “Youngsters need to understand Islam and respect the religion in the right way.” Yes, Shah Rukh! You are not telling your fans something they don’t know! Also, “…no agenda should be attached to any kind of religion.” Thank you SRK, for stating the obvious. And for being so very politically correct…non-committal…during the most violent attack on Mumbai – the very city that has made you. I wanted to hear some words of comfort for those who died; some strong condemnation of those who committed this crime. This report made no mention of any such thing. And it was the only published comment from SRK to date.”
SRK was livid and replied to De’s comments, he said “She’s a joke. She can’t be taken seriously. I mean, I like her, but at the end of the day she’s cynicism dressed in a designer sari. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about. She wakes up every morning and decides who she should target that day, so that she can sell a few more saris. Nobody can tell me what to do. I live my life with piety and honesty. I feel sorry for Shobhaa.”
Shah Rukh Khan & Lady Cop
The brand ambassador of Bengal and owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Shah Rukh Khan was invited as a guest by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at a function to honour the brave police officers of Kolkata. SRK not only interacted with the audience but also entertained them, but that instantly turned into a big controversy because he danced with a lady constable and even lifted her while dancing on the songs of ‘Jab Tak Hain Jaan’.
