HABIGANJ, Nov 13, 2014 (NU/BSS)- A supplementary charge-sheet was submitted today against eleven persons including BNP leader Harris Chowdhury in connection with the killing of former finance minister and Awami League (AL) leader Shah AMS Kibria.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Meherunnesa Parul of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Sylhet region and also investigation officer (IO) of the case filed the charge-sheet before Habiganj District and Session Jude’s Court.

The accused are: BNP leader Harris Chowdhury, former mayor of Habiganj Golam Kibria Gaus, Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Mufti Abdul Hai, Mufti Tajuddin, Mufti Shafiqur Rahman, Mohammad Ali, Badrul, Mahibur Rahman, Kazal Ahmed and Hafez Yahia.

All of them were accused of carrying out bomb attacks and killings of people.

“Eleven more persons were accused in the fresh charge-sheet in the Kibria killing case. With them, a total of 35 persons were accused in the three charge-sheets. Of them, names of three accused were dropped from the supplementary charge-sheet as one of them died and addresses of two others could not be found,” Police Super of Habiganj, Joydeb Kumar Bhadra told BSS today.

A grenade attack was carried out on a rally at Baidyer Bazar in Habiganj on January 27 in 2005, in which Shah AMS Kibria and four others were killed and many others injured.

AL leader Abdul Mazid Khan filed two cases — one for murder and the other under the Explosive Substances Act — with Habiganj Sadar Police Station the next day.

Earlier on March 19 in 2005, a charge-sheet was submitted before the court accusing 10 people. Later, on June 20 in 2011, sixteen more persons including Lutfozzaman Babar, ex-state minister for home, and Mufti Abdul Hannan, chief of banned militant outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad-Al Islami (Huji) were made accused in a supplementary charge-sheet in the case.

Asma Kibria, wife of Shah AMS Kibria, filed a naraji (no-confidence) petition with the court against the supplementary charge-sheet. Following the petition, the court on January 5, 2012 ordered the CID to carry out fresh probe by a senior officer.
