Maybe Susan Sarandon wants a Pulitzer next to her Oscar. The “Tammy” star and ping-pong maven will be editor-in-chief of the Aug. 13 issue of Time Out New York magazine. Sarandon is set to start her new gig Monday in a day of brainstorming with editorial staff, picking images and working on page layouts. The actress also will pick a theme for the issue and man the decks on social media.
“She is genuinely going to do it,” TONY editor-in-chief Terri White told Confidenti@l. “Often with this kind of thing people just say, ‘Yeah, I’m going to guest edit.’ But we drew up a job description for Susan, which shows all the things an editor-in-chief usually does. So she’s doing it for real.” However, White says crowd control may be an issue at the office. “I’m slightly worried I’m going to have to lock our HR director in the closet because she’s obsessed with Susan.” There will be a launch party at Sarandon’s ping-pong club, SPiN New York.

DEPP A HIT WITH AEROSMITH
Before the Aerosmith show at Xfinity Center in Boston Wednesday night, insiders were buzzing that lead singer Steven Tyler had Johnny Depp coming, “and he may go on stage.” Sure enough, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star joined the rock legends on guitar for their hit “Train Kept a-Rollin’.” “Johnny was filming nearby,” explains a source close to the band, “and he and Steven are super, super close. Steven totally loved having his best friend on stage like that. He’d like it if Johnny joined the tour,” joked the insider. We’re told Depp’s fiancée, Amber Heard, was seen backstage.

LIST’S TEEN SCENE
Even though she’s a huge Disney star at only age 16, Peyton List spends her time like a lot of regular teenage girls. The “Jessie” star invited Teen Vogue’s cameras to spend the day with her and her real-life best friend, and the video shows them shopping for vintage clothes and making salad. What didn’t make the final cut, however, was the fact that List’s guinea pig Daphne ate her way through a cardboard house and the kitchen table while on set. Oops.

QB NEEDS A GOOD LINE
One benefit to being an NFL quarterback like Colin Kaepernick is having supermodels come up to you at parties. Sadly for the San Francisco 49er, at the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles, the supermodel in question is very much spoken for. Chrissy Teigen, wife of John Legend, had a laugh with Kaepernick on the red carpet anyway.
‘FRIENDS’ JUST BARELY SCRAPING BY
“Friends” don’t let other friends drive drunk. That might explain why Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow had a chauffeur escort them from Craig’s restaurant in Hollywood after dinner. Unfortunately, the driver still managed to scratch the car while cruising out of the restaurant’s private entrance through a small alleyway.

GREAT COLE SPELL AHEAD
Aug. 5 can’t come fast enough for Natalie Cole, when she starts a four-week gig as special guest vocalist in “After Midnight” at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. A spywitness says Cole confessed to staffers at Old Homestead Steakhouse in the Meatpacking District that her emotions might get the best of her when she takes the stage in the production about Harlem’s famed Cotton Club. Cole says she feels a deep emotional connection to the show because her father, Nat King Cole, was among the legendary crooners to perform during the Cotton Club’s heyday.
