Jimmer Fredette joins the Knicks’ organization as he tries to make return to the NBA.

Jimmer Fredette will once again look to rekindle his NBA career. This time, it’ll be in the Knicks’ system.

The Westchester Knicks, the organization’s Development League affiliate, selected Fredette with the No. 2 overall pick in the D-League draft Saturday. Fredette is still a free agent and can sign with an NBA team at any point.

Fredette has struggled to find a home in the NBA despite winning national college player of the year in his senior season at BYU. He was taken in the lottery in the 2011 and landed with the Kings via a draft-day trade, but after spending three seasons in Sacramento, he was waived in February of 2014.

Fredette went on to sign contracts with the Bulls and Pelicans, averaging fewer than 11 minutes per game with both teams. He most recently signed a contract with the Spurs this past summer, but was waived again in October.

“I’m happy for Jimmer that he’s going to get an opportunity,” Knicks coach Derek Fisher said. “Within our organization, even with our D-League team, we’re trying to establish a certain way of doing things. So we want all guys to feel valued and appreciated. And when we get back to New York, hopefully we’ll get a chance to kind of get to know him a little bit more.”

Fredette has averaged 6.1 points and 1.4 assists in 229 career NBA games. He averaged close to 30 points his final season at BYU.
