While the NASA-inspired Zero Gravity front seats in the 2014 Nissan Altima may sound like they are pulled from a sci-fi adventure, Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com has found them better suited for a comfortable trip on the interstate than a journey to outer space. In fact, Nissan’s advanced seating feature helped the Altima make KBB.com’s recently announced 10 Most Comfortable Cars Under $30,000 list.
The 2014 Altima landed at No. 6 in the KBB.com feature, but according to Kelley Blue Book’s Fair Purchase Price, Nissan’s midsize sedan costs at least $5,000 less than the higher-ranked models, and it is among the three most affordable cars on the list. Inside the Altima’s spacious cabin, front occupants enjoy more headroom and legroom than the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, while the aforementioned Zero Gravity seats simulate the effect of weightlessness on the human body to cut down on fatigue and stress.
“Cars that are simultaneously comfortable, affordable and fuel efficient usually lack a sense of excitement, but the Altima provides those practical elements while also engaging drivers with its responsive powertrain and advanced technology,” said Bruce Garcia, general sales manager of Mastria Nissan, a Nissan dealer in Raynham, Mass. “Buyers will be hard-pressed to find another midsize sedan that offers that same range of benefits at a similar price point.”
Despite its impressive 38-mpg highway rating, the base 2014 Nissan Altima produces a healthy 182 horsepower through its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, and the car’s Active Understeer Control system and redesigned multilink rear suspension contribute to crisper cornering. Owners also benefit from standard technology features like Bluetooth streaming audio and the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with Easy-Fill Tire Alert, which not only signals to drivers when a tire is low, but also lightly beeps the horn when tire pressure is inflated back to the proper level.
