They came, they saw, they conquered. Here are five hottest things in Bollywood who made it big, all on their own.
1. Shahrukh Khan
In an earlier speech addressing a conference at AIMA, Shahrukh Khan said of his background, “I come from a very normal lower middle class family. My father was the most successful failure in the world. We were quite poor actually at certain junctures of our lives, and I have even experienced a kurkee where they throw you and your house stuff on the roads.”
Shahrukh Khan’s father used to run a transportation business and mother used to be a magistrate. Growing up in the humble Rajendra Nagar neighbourhood of Delhi, Khan attended St. Columba’s School and earned his Bachelors degree in Economics from Hansraj College. But he was always a very bright student and was even awarded the Sword Of Honour in his school.
Though he pursued a Masters Degree in Mass Communications at Jamia Millia Islamia, he later opted out to pursue a career in Bollywood.
2. Ayushmann Khurrana
Born and brought up in Chandigarh, this Punjabi munda’s family has no association with the Hindi film industry whatsoever. His father is a renowned astrologer and an author on the subject of astrology, while his mother is a house wife and a qualified M.A. in Hindi.
Ayushmann has done a Masters in Mass Communication from School of Communication Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh and has always been actively involved in theatre throughout his five years’ college life.
3. John Abraham
John Abraham grew up in a middle class famil to a Christian father and Parsi mother. His father is an architect and mother is a charity worker. He got his bachelor’s degree in honors economics from Jai Hind College and MBA from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai. As a student, John was just a bit above average, and was always in the top 15 in his class.
But he was the captain of the football team at Jai Hind College. He even ran track races at his school and has been trained in Tae Kwon Do under master Javed Khan.
4. Siddharth Malhotra
Sid belongs to an educated family, where his father is a captain in the merchant navy and mother is a housewife. His elder brother has a cushy finance job. He lived his earlier years in Delhi and moved to Mumbai at the age of 8. He attended St. Xaviers School in Mumbai and dropped out of college to pursue a career in modeling.
5. Sushant Singh Rajput
Sushant Singh’s roots lie in village Malldiha in the Purnea district of Bihar. Sushant was born in Patna where his father worked as a government official. Later, his family moved to New Delhi. The youngest in the family with four elder sisters, one of them being a state-level cricketer, little Sushant finished his schooling from the Kulachi Hansraj Model School in New Delhi.
He went to the prestigious Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) for his graduation but dropped out in the third year to pursue his passion and career in acting.
