Dhaka – The trial court on Wednesday deferred the date for verdict in Jubair killing case to February 8 as the accused could not be brought to the courtroom on security ground.

ABM Nizamul Haque, judge of Specifal Trial Tribunal-4 of Dhaka, made the announcement as the verdict in the sensational killing was scheduled for Wednesday.

Jubair ahmed, a student of English Department of Jahangirnagar University, was brutally killed on the campus three years ago allegedly by a group of activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of ruling Awami League.

The accused in the case are: Khandaker Ashikul Islam Ashik, Md Rashedul Islam Raju, Khan Md Rois alias Shohan, Zahid Hasan, Ishtiak Mehbub Arup, Mahbub Akram, Nazmus Shakib Tapu, Mazharul Islam, Kamruzzaman Shohagh, Md Nazmul Hussain Plabon, Shafiul Alam Setu, Abhinandan Kundu Avi and Md Mahmudul Hasan Masud. They are all the students of JU.

Seven students were sent to jail pending the trial. The rest of the accused are fugitive.

On January 8, 2012, Jubair, a fourth year student (Hons) of English department, was beaten up by the leaders and activists of Chhatra League while he was returning from examination hall.

He was rushed to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar and later shifted to United Hospital in Dhaka as his condition was deteriorated. He died on the following day.

Meanwhile, his parents, teachers and students of the university demanded the highest punishment.
