McMenamins Crystal Ballroom brewery continues their quarterly metal band collaboration series with “CDA of Cain” a collab with Black Breath. If your brewing above a rock venue, it makes sense to embrace black metal bands and head brewer Drew Phillips has done in his inspired collaboration series. This next release is inspired by a Black Breath song and will be released January 13th, 2016 at their show with Hellshock and Usnea. I will let Drew tell you about it:

Black Breath, previously known for their distinct style of party thrash, took a dark and disgusting turn with 2015’s Slaves of Beyond Death. Gone are the catchy gang-choruses, the Slayer & hot wings riffs. Black Breath’s now blends punishing black metal tremolo with gigantic Tampa-style death blows, somehow seamlessly dropping into heady, technical interludes that sound like Paul Gilbert after too many bong hits.

One such song, “Seed of Cain,” especially caught our attention and inspired us to make the “CDA of Cain.”

Always stoked to delve into the dark arts, we teamed up with Seattle’s mighty death metallurgists, Black Breath for CDA of Cain. Taking its name from the song “Seed of Cain,” from the new LP Slaves Beyond Death, our Cascadian Dark Ale starts slow but hits hard and heavy with massive doses of Simcoe, Cascade, and Centennial hops layered on a smooth obsidian malt body. We added fermented Chinese Puh-er tea to conjure up the cold black earth of a forgotten Northwestern graveyard at midnight. Like Black Breath’s music, it sounds horrifying, but is utterly delicious.

Malt: British Pale, Rolled Oats, Crystal Rye, Pale Chocolate, Kiln Coffee, Black, Chocolate
Hops: Cascade, Simcoe, Centennial, Meridian (dry addition)
OG: 1.062 TG 1.015 ABV: 6.06% SRM: 32 IBU: 75

About Slaves Beyond Death:

From Southern Lord Records: Slaves Beyond Death is the 3rd full-length from the new kings of Seattle Death Metal: Black (FUCKING) Breath.  Like its predecessors, this album was recorded by Kurt Ballou (High on Fire, Nails, Baptists, Converge) at his infamous God City studio in Salem, MA. The heathens of the Breath have taken a decidedly more sick and evil sonic direction with their latest burnt offering. They have effectively and efficiently ripped off their old skin and left us with a more grotesque, rotting corpse of PURE filthy Death Metal. Bid farewell to any good time hardcore, punk or retro thrash vibes. It’s all putrid stench and bile vomited up by THEE best current DM band that currently rages. This music ain’t pretty but neither are you. Suit up, strap it on and get ready to get pummeled!
