Life isn’t always a piece of cake, as our dream analyst Lauren Lawrence shows.

MAKING SENSE OF A DOG DAY AFTERNOON

I dreamt I was walking down the street eating a piece of cake when a vicious dark-cloaked Rottweiler dog grabbed it from my hand. Because I wanted the cake, I looked for the dog owner. Everyone on the street wore dark clothing and had a dog’s head. Only two elderly men in wheelchairs had normal heads. When asked, they said the dog did not belong to them. They took my hand and said a prayer. When I fumbled on the phrase “Let the words of our mouths be acceptable in thy sight, oh Lord,” they looked on with understanding and smiled. Please decode this strange dream.

Stephanie Hatten, Bronx

Analysis: One understands your conflicted need for the sweet life when what was “a piece of cake” easy for you is made difficult. In no uncertain terms, the dream states this is not a “have your cake and eat it” moment. Compromises must be made regarding two incompatible things in your life. Biblically speaking, one cannot serve two masters God and money without abandoning one of them. The dog day afternoon the hot, unhealthy day reveals a tough time. Whereas the dog-headed people represent an ominous foreboding, the normal-headed wheelchair-bound men represent goodness. They are sick in body, but healthy in spirit. In a world-gone-mad scenario, prayers are in order. It is time for some serious soul-searching.

SHE’S GETTING BUGGY ABOUT SOMETHING

I dreamt I was in my bedroom. When I threw back the bed covers I saw a cockroach. I swept it away and got rid of it. What does this mean?

Patricia M., Manhattan

Analysis: The dream uncovers emotional stress: Something repugnant in your life must be gotten rid of. The cockroach symbolic of an infringement of privacy or personal space reveals some sort of intrusion is in play. However, more often than not, these dreams merely indicate that something is bugging you.
