Kylie Jenner’s lips were on full display on Nov. 20.
It’s the trend that’s on everyone’s lips — for all the wrong reasons.
Forget the ice bucket challenge — the latest social media dare is the Kylie Jenner Challenge, in which teen girls post pictures of themselves with artificially plumped lips to resemble the reality-star-turned-model.
To get the pillowy pout, the girls suck on a shot glass or plastic cup for a few minutes, which engorges the lips with blood.
The results are short-term — mere minutes to hours — but can have lasting consequences, says one local dermatologist.
“Not only does it have the potential for pain, swelling, and bruising, but if performed repeatedly it has the potential for permanent disfigurement,” says Dr. Dendy Engelman, a New York City dermotologist.

Jenner has denied plastic surgery.
That could be soft tissue swelling and scarring, she adds.
Jenner has insisted on Twitter and in interviews that her prized pucker is the real deal.
“I haven’t had plastic surgery. I’ve never been under the knife,” she told Grazia magazine. “People flash back to pictures of me when I was 12 and say, ‘Kylie’s so different’ but how can I look the same from 12 to 18?”
But Engelman said that while our lips do change as we age, they tend to shrink.
“They certainly do not transform naturally in the ways we have seen Kylie’s lips change,” she said.
Some African-Americans are pointing out the irony of white girls trying to enhance their lips.
“Big lips have been a source of ridicule for black people for practically forever, and now because this little girl comes on the scene with her fake lips, you want to pretend like it’s the new ‘It thing?!'” wrote Instagram user melissad071988.
