Megan Andrews-Sharer (center) is seen here with sisters, Erin Andrews-Sharer (r.) and Kelsi Andrews-Sharer. A search is being conducted in a northwest Wyoming wilderness area for the three sisters who failed to return from an extended backcountry trip.

Three sisters who went missing while backpacking in the Wyoming wilderness have been found cold and hungry, but safe, after a frantic three-day search, friends said Thursday.

Megan, Erin, and Kelsi Andrews-Sharer sparked panic after they failed to return from their five-day camping trip in the Grand Teton National Park on Sunday. Police and loved ones believed they may have “simply made a wrong turn” and gotten lost in the sprawling northwestern Wyoming site.

“The girls were found by search teams and are in a helicopter on their way back to civilization to reunite with the family,” said a blog loved ones started to post search updates. “They are okay, we have no other news beyond that for now.”

Friends and family members had remained hopeful throughout the large-scale search for the sisters, who are from Milwaukee County, Wisc., and set off for their journey last Tuesday.

“We have every reason to believe the girls are lost and will be found soon,” the blog said. “While we are all very anxious, the overall feeling at the search and rescue center is optimistic. This happens frequently in the area, and they are well-equipped to deal with it.”

A rescue team of about 80 people, two helicopters, several dogs and horses set out Wednesday to canvass the 310,000-acre national park, according to the blog.

The lost campers were found Thursday afternoon.

Family Handout

(L-R) Andrews-Sharer sisters Erin, Megan and Kelsi have been reported missing after they failed to return from a backcountry trip in the northewest wilderness area of Wyoming.

Their conditions were unclear. Friends and family members believed they were well-off in terms of food and shelter.

The youngest sister, Kelsi, 16, was “adamant” the girls pack extra food, according to the page.

Loved ones were also comforted by the fact that 22-year-old Erin’s phone had recent searches about a particular trail.

Search crews found a car belonging to the Andrews-Sharer sisters Erin, 25, Megan, 25, and Kelsi, 16, who have been reported missing after they failed to return from a backcountry trip in the northewest wilderness area of Wyoming.

Authorities found the phone in 25-year-old Megan’s car where they parked it at the trail head.

A park service employee also spoke to the sisters a few days ago, narrowing down the search.
