Tech titan IBM announced on Thursday, Aug. 22, the opening of its new global delivery facility at Nuvali in Sta. Rosa City, tagged as one of the country’s promising “Next Wave Cities”.

The Laguna facility is the fourth overall for IBM in two years following similar launches in Pampanga and Davao in 2012 and then Naga City in the Bicol region last May.
The IBM sites in Davao City and within the Clark ecozone in Pampanga serve as growth market operations while the Naga and Nuvali facilities will initially cater to IBM’s business process outsourcing delivery business.
Both Sta. Rosa and Naga City are recognized as the country’s “next wave cities,” or growth centers outside Metro Manila that are poised to serve as information and communications technology (ICT) hubs due to their rich talent, steady telecom infrastructure and support facilities, and generally favorable investment climate.
Mariels Almeda Winhoffer, president and country general manager of IBM Philippines, said the expansion in Sta. Rosa reinforces the company’s strategy to grow and nurture local talent and develop further opportunities in the country’s next wave cities.
“This demonstrates our continued commitment to the country as we work towards enabling a Smarter Philippines,” Winhoffer said.
Winhoffer said the new facility in Nuvali provides another strategic location for IBM Global Process Services (GPS), which will drive its continued expansion in delivering innovative business solutions to its broad range of global clients in customer relationship management, human resources, application services, finance & accounting and supply chain management.
The move complements IBM’s existing operations in Metro Manila, where it maintains a number of established global delivery centers in three key cities — Quezon City, Makati City, and Pasig City.
The expansion further strengthens IBM’s presence and existing service delivery capability in the Philippines, which currently serve over a million client employees across 84 countries.
According to IBM’s GPS Delivery country leader Cassandra Soto, the Philippines remains one of the strategic locations in IBM’s global delivery network.
“With our second global delivery facility in Sta. Rosa City [after Naga City], this year, IBM is in a better position to provide premier career opportunities to more local talent, while helping enhance the country’s global competitiveness in the business process solutions industry,” Soto said. – Tom Noda
