It’s been a tough year in Hollywood regarding how many losses we’ve seen.

It seems as if almost everyone loves soap operas. There’s something about the drama that just grips your heart and won’t let go.

However, when the drama becomes reality it’s a completely different story. All of a sudden people aren’t so happy about drama anymore. In fact, they’d rather the problem completely go away.

Unfortunately, we are experiencing that right now with a beloved star of the hit show, Days Of Our Lives. Joseph Mascolo, who played the iconic villain, Stefano DiMera, has passed away from Alzheimer’s disease.

The star was 87 years old when he passed on Thursday, Dec. 8, and is already missed by so many. Mascolo had this light about him that touched everyone he ever met.

The Days of our Lives Executive Producer, Ken Corday, opened up about the tragic loss to Soap Opera Digest.

“It is with great sorrow that we share the news the news of the passing of our dear friend and beloved member of the Days of our Lives family, Joseph MascoloThe smile on Joe’s face is something we’d all come to find comfort in, and he will be sorely missed. His larger than life presence, kind heart, and unwavering positivity has impacted us all for decades, and will live on in the memories of his many fans. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.”

Mascolo joined the cast of Days of our Lives in 1983, where he was introduced as Stefana DiMera. He stayed on the show from 83-85, then took a break and joined back with the cast in 88′ before taking another break. Mascolo was reintroduced once again in 1993 and stayed until 2001.

That makes it crystal clear just how much the people on the show loved Mascolo! He even tried to switch shows and act on the other hit soap opera, “The Bold and Beautiful”, but ultimately made his way back to the show he knew and loved (The Days of our Lives). He was eventually killed off the show for good earlier this year.

Mascolo is survived by his wife, Patricia Schultz-Mascolo, his son, step-daughter, sister and brother-in-law, as well as five grandchildren. Patricia also spoke out about losing her husband. Her sincerity and admiration is almost too much to bear!

“Joseph was a big ‘ol bear with a puppy dog heart. I’m so blessed to have had these many years with him. I will miss him every day.”

This is absolutely devastating.

We are praying for the Mascolo family through this time of grief!
