Shania Twain tells all in her recent interview with Rolling Stone, this shocked me!

Shania Twain has kind of been hanging out behind the scenes lately and the reason why will have anyone in tears. Twain was talking to Rolling Stone about her first album in 15 years and she shared details that we had no idea about.

We have all been wondering why she has ben out of the business for so long and she has finally given us all of the answers. A while back Twain was diagnosed with with dysphonia which is a vocal-cord disorder that causes hoarseness and trouble speaking.

Twain had to go through voice therapy for several years before she could go back into the studio and record. She says that she is a completely different singer new after all of the drama.

“I’m a different singer now,” she says. “There was a lot of coming to terms with that. It’s been one of the obstacles in my life I’ve just had to learn to live with.”

Twain went on to share that she believes the illness came upon her because of all of the stress she was dealing with after divorcing her husband Robert “Mutt” Lange in 2010. Apparently Lange had fallen in love with Shania’s longtime friend Marie-Anne Thiébaud, and not long after Shania announced that she was engaged to Thiébaud’s ex-husband, Frederic.

“I’ve learned a lot about myself,” she says. “It’s scary to learn how vulnerable you can be.”

Several of the songs on Shania’s new album are said to be a reflection of her downward spiraling marriage. One song in particular “Who’s Gonna Be Your Girl” is about her feeling unappreciated and knowing that she was second.

“It’s about feeling unappreciated and knowing that you are secondary,” she says. “Having to live with someone that has different priorities and accepting that you’re not the most important thing in a person’s life.”

Another song on the album “Swinging With My Eyes Closed” is about the fighter inside of Shania. She says that she was inspired by a boxer swinging with their eyes closed.

“The fighter in me wrote that song,” she says. “I was thinking of a boxer taking a swing, or a baby first coming out with his eyes and fists closed. They can’t even see yet and they’re swinging with their eyes closed.”

The country legend went on to share that writing this new album was her therapy and that she was able to deal with a lot of things in her life because of it that she otherwise wouldn’t have. This is so beautiful! It’s crazy how artists write the best when they are at their worst.

“It needed to be really pure and my own story and my own emotional journey,” she says. “I was now alone all of a sudden, and I didn’t want to shy away from it. And that’s not a collaborative thing; it’s a very personal thing…I was reflecting on the darkness…It helped me come to terms with a lot of things emotionally,” she adds. “It’s sort of like when you finish crying. When you’re done, you’re done and you move on.”

Congrats on your new album Shania!
