SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A big toast happened on Wednesday. The General Manager of Rivers Casino and Resort in Schenectady announced the date it will open, and it’s right around the corner.
Rush Street Gaming is ahead of schedule.
Cheers were heard on Wednesday as General Manager Mary Cheeks announced the casino will open its doors on Wednesday, February 8, 2017. The casino will open just a few days after the anniversary of the facility’s groundbreaking, which was held on February 3, 2016.
Cheeks threw the switch to the reveal the opening date on the casino’s LED sign that will welcome guests to the property.
The Casino will have an entertainment lounge, a market place, a day spa, an events center and hundreds of slot machines, as well as a large steak house restaurant, and a hotel.
Schenectady’s mayor praised the work done on the project, and partners with the Galesi Group say the Casino will continue to improve development in Schenectady.
“This is not about a Casino,” said CEO of Galesi Group David Buicko. “This is about a regional asset. This is one of the largest mix use developments going on in Upstate New York, actually New York State as a whole. It’s about a lifestyle. A place where people can eat, live, gamble, sleep, play and work and boat.”
“Today we’re on the top,” said Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy. “People look to Schenectady to see how things are done, how we make things happen, how we work with organized labor, how we work with business, [and] the financial community.”
Now, there is a larger part of this project. A hotel down the road and the Galesi group are also adding Riverhouse apartments.
Details about the Grand Opening of Rivers Casino & Resort will be released in the coming weeks.
Officials say the first guests will have a full day of special promotions and events.
