SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Dr. Paul Arciero works in the Human Nutrition and Metabolism Lab at Skidmore College.

Dr. Arciero is on the advisory board for the American Heart Association.

On Monday morning, he will fly to Washington, D.C., for two days. Arciero and 350 other American Heart Association volunteers, from 48 states, will talk to Congress about funding for important research and programs.

“The ones that I’m going to be speaking directly to when I’m down in the Capitol tomorrow are going to be on funding from the National Institute of Health for Heart Disease Research and stroke prevention; and then as well as the school lunch program … Making sure that we have adequate funding and programs in place to make sure that our children are fed healthy while at school,” he explained.

Arciero is a heart patient himself. He has Atrial Fibrillation, an arrhythmia that can be a risk factor for stroke. So, he says this trip isn’t only important on the national level, but because it all hits too close to home.
