A new survey, Employee Benefits Survey 2016, conducted by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, examines the many ways employers are creating a family-friendly culture in the workplace. PBGC director discusses financial forecast of single-employer and multiemployer plans insurance programs

Recently, the PBGC issued two reports: a Projections Report and an MPRA Report. Both reports highlight the current financial state of PBGC’s insurance programs, and predict future financial conditions. In his letter to Congress accompanying the reports, Department of Labor Secretary Thomas Perez, who is Chair of PBGC’s Board of Directors, made it clear we need to take action now to save the single-employer program benefits, as well as the multiemployer program insurance benefits. IRS releases 4th quarter update to Priority Guidance Plan

The IRS and the Treasury Department have released the fourth quarter update to the 2015-2016 Priority Guidance Plan, which includes numerous employee benefit items. The update includes 13 additional projects that have become priorities and/or guidance published during the period from April 1, 2016 through June 30, 2016 of the plan year. In addition, two projects were closed without publication during the same time period. For more information, see ¶144o.

IRS releases 2016-2017 Priority Guidance Plan

Numerous employee benefits projects are included in the IRS’s 2016-2017 Priority Guidance Plan. The Plan describes areas in which the IRS intends to issue final regulations, proposed regulations, and other guidance, including regularly scheduled guidance, such as interest rates and COLAs. In the retirement benefits area, the IRS plans to deliver final regulations on: (1) the application of the normal retirement age regulations under Code Sec. 401(a) to governmental plans; (2) closed defined benefit plans and related matters; and (3) the simplification of the treatment of optional forms of benefits that are paid partly in the form of an annuity and partly in a more accelerated form.
