Delivering with a purpose

28 July 2016

At Courtney Transport prides they pride themselves on being a young, modern and progressive transport and logistics company.

Based in Gorey, Courtney Transport are a family run transport and logistics company covering Ireland’s South East region. At highly competitive prices, there’s no job too big or too small says Managing Director Tom Courtney.

Courtney Transport was re-established by Tom Courtney in 2011, with the original Courtney Transport business having been established in 1985 by Tom’s father Christy Courtney.

Transport and logistics has been in the Courtney family for almost 30 years, and Tom began working in the transport business with his father during school holidays.

When he finished school, he went on to work as transport and logistics manager for some of Ireland’s largest transport and food companies until late 2010.

In that time he gained a wealth of valuable experience and knowledge of the transport industry, and now puts this experience to great use when running Courtney Transport.

To add to the family tradition of transport and logistics, Tom’s brother Chris Courtney has recently joined the team at Courtney Transport, and with his skills and experience in marketing and the electrical industry, ensures that Courtney Transport continues to go from strength-to-strength.

At Courtney Transport they pride themselves on being a young, modern and progressive transport and logistics company.

Their fleet consists of modern vehicles ranging from medium-sized vans, 3.5 tonne box-vans, 7.5 and 18.5 tonne trucks and tractor units.

With eight employees on the payroll, their experienced transport team of base-controllers, drivers and loaders specialise in parcel delivery, full and partial truck loads, multi drop deliveries, wine deliveries, home and office removals and guaranteed next day delivery in Ireland.

With a constantly expanding route network covering Dublin City and County, and extending across the South east of Ireland, and the major town centres of Wicklow, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Carlow and Kildare, their goal is simple: to offer their customers a quality delivery service at very competitive prices.

Describing himself as a ‘Jack of all Trades’, the personal approach is one of things that separates Courtney Transport from its competitors according to Tom Courtney.

I’d be very hands-on when it comes to the business. We’re not big enough that I can afford the luxury of sitting around the office all day long. Wherever I need to be, that’s where you’ll find me.

We offer a wide range of services and, at the moment, a lot of our business is centred on home deliveries. We’re very focussed on the retail sector and we currently have a contract with one of the country’s leading electrical companies. We deliver everything and anything.

Renowned for a professional and reliable service, these are exciting times for the Gorey-based business as they recently rolled out their new logo while all employees are always dressed to impressed in the Courtney Transport uniform.

When I worked as a transport manager, there was nothing worse that seeing guys getting off a truck in jeans and trainers. With my lads in uniform, our customers can identify with them and they stand out. They’re quality lads and it’s a strong indication of our professionalism and the service we offer.
How is the current economic climate treating Courtney Transport?

Business is okay, there has been a noticeable upturn and a few new customers have decided to come on board with us, which is big compliment for us.

People might ask what is a Dublin man doing down in Gorey but it’s a part of the country that I am very familiar with from my time working with my father. It’s also an area where I believe there is great scope for growth. There’s a couple of big contractors down here but I believe there is a place for everybody and we’re here to be competitive.

Obviously not one to rest on his laurels, warehousing is one area of the business which Tom intends to explore in the near future.

What I want to do is create organic growth, he explained. At the end of day, you could take on too much and make a bags of it. We’re not going to turn away business but we have to be the right fit for our customers and them for us.

It’s all about getting the customers confidence and we’ve never let a customer down so far. I’m not saying we know everything that there is to know but we have experience. There’s a lot of guys around involved with The Pallet Network but the more customers I speak to, the more it becomes abundantly clear that they want to stay away from The Pallet Network. It works for some but not others.

Courtney Transport are dedicated to ensuring your delivery gets there safely, securely and on time; at a highly competitive price.

They are constantly extending their delivery network, and should you require a collection or delivery to any address outside their network, don’t hesitate to call Tom on 087 9760708 to find out how if they can help.
