Shoreline Community College automotive students with vehicles recently donated to the GM ASEP program by General Motors.

General Motors (GM) recently donated approximately $150k worth of GM automobiles to Shoreline Community College’s GM ASEP (Automotive Service Educational Program) program as part of its commitment to support excellence in automotive education. The high-performance vehicles—a 2016 Cadillac CTS4, a 2015 GMC Denali, and a 2015 Camaro—are the latest in GM technology, providing teaching aids for students that represent what they will work on in GM dealerships.

“This donation showcases the strong partnership between the automotive industry and the educational institutions training the next generation of automotive workers,” said Michael Boehm, Director of Dealer Services & Manufacturer Relations for Shoreline’s Professional Automotive Training Center – Dealer Training Academy. “It’s through the continued support of our industry partners that we’re able to so effectively train world-class automotive professionals.”

The GM donation will allow Shoreline to in turn be able to donate 10-15 of its GM cars and trucks to area high schools and skills centers. “Our high school partners are training today the students who will come to us tomorrow, so it’s exciting to be able to provide state-of-the-art educational tools to help those students take their careers to the next level,” said Boehm.

Shoreline’s professional automotive training center is recognized as a world leader in technician training, and part of the uniqueness of the Shoreline program is the relationships it has built within the industry. “The GM donation benefits our students immensely,” said Boehm, “allowing them to work on the latest technology today.”

The GM ASEP program at Shoreline is a two-year cooperative program that incorporates technical studies on campus for four quarters, alternating with three quarters at a sponsoring General Motors dealership. Upon completion of this program, students will earn a Technical AAAS and numerous General Motors technical certifications that are recognized worldwide.
