Internationally recognized leaders in health care and medical research will gather on the Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus for the fifth annual International Symposium on Lasallian Research, Sept. 25–27.

The symposium features three keynote presentations, including Saint Mary’s dean of sciences and health professions, Dr. Todd Reinhart, discussing the Lasallian response to HIV/AIDS research.

Dr. Melchor Victor G. Frias, vice chancellor for research at the De La Salle Health Sciences Institute, will present on the challenges and concerns of conducting a Phase 1 clinical trial on a new drug for Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) among children, which has never been done.

Dr. Judy A. Van Wyk (Department of Sociology & Anthropology at the University of Rhode Island) and Dr. Camela Steinke (program assessment and effectiveness research specialist at Lasalle School in New York) will discuss Lasallian and trauma informed care in Lasallian youth and family ministries.

Participants also attend numerous breakout sessions, informal networking opportunities, and roundtable discussions.

Saint Mary’s Institute for Lasallian Studies hosts the event, co-sponsored by the Christian Brothers Conference of the Lasallian Region of North America. More information about the symposium is online.
