The Labour Leader believes the Government’s bowing down on pressure to stop a local referendum on the plans.

It’s after the Conservative led council did a U-turn on the rise of up to 15 per cent; instead opting for a rise of just under 5%.

If approved it have made way for more funding for social care.

In a statement, David Hodge, Leader of Surrey County Council said:

"Surrey's decision not to proceed with a 15% council tax increase was ours alone and there has been no deal between Surrey County Council and the Government. However, I am confident that the Government now understands the real pressures in adult social care and the need for a lasting solution."
