PBA Hall of Famers Parker Bohn III and Mike Aulby will once again be the celebrity pro bowlers for the 11th annual Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation Charity Bowling Tournament July 26 in Indianapolis. The fundraising event, which will be held at Western Bowl in conjunction with NASCAR’s Brickyard 400, benefits the Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation Pediatric Cancer Research Fund at Riley Hospital and the Wells Center for Pediatric Research at the Indiana University School of Medicine. In the 10 tournaments held to date, more than $2 million has been raised.

Baltimore’s Danny Wiseman is lending his support to another Indianapolis fundraiser hosted by midget race car driver Dillon Welch. Welch’s “Bowling with the Stars” fund-raiser will take place on Sunday, Aug. 26, at Woodland Bowl and will benefit “Sheltering Wings” which provides services to domestic abuse victims in central Indiana.

ESPN2 TO RE-AIR GEICO PBA SUMMER SHOOTOUT SHOWS

All GEICO PBA Summer Shootout shows, conducted earlier this summer at 10pin bowling lounge in Chicago, will re-air on ESPN2 in the coming weeks. The first re-airs begin Saturday, July 21, at 4 p.m. Additional broadcast times include Saturday, July 28 at 3 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 4 at 12:30 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 5 at 3 p.m. All times are Eastern.

REGIONAL ROUNDUP: SCROGGINS WINS SOUTHWEST REGION CHEETAH OPEN

PBA Tour veteran Mike Scroggins of Amarillo, Texas, defeated Joe Findling of Mesquite, Texas, 258-235, to win the PBA Southwest Region Cheetah Open at South Plains Lanes in Lubbock, Texas, on Sunday, July 15. The title was Scroggins’ 37th in PBA Regional competition. He earned $4,500 and the second of the Southwest Region’s optional animal pattern entries into the 2012 World Series of Bowling.

In Wood Dale, Ill., Harry Sullins of Chesterfield Twp., Mich., defeated Kenny Parks of Hammond, Ind., 258-192, to win the joint PBA Midwest/Central Region Wood Dale Bowl Senior Open sponsored by Allstate Insurance on Sunday. The win was Sullins’ first of the year in the PBA Midwest and his 20th overall PBA Regional title. He also won $1,600.

In Cherry Hill, N.J., Mark Glover of Woodbridge, Va., successfully defended his PBA East Region Mil-Ray Foods Senior Open presented by Roto Grip title when he defeated George Tignor of Winchendon, Mass., 193-170, at Playdrome Cherry Hill on Sunday. The victory was Glover’s 7th overall and as a senior in regional competition. He earned $1,500 along with his title.

“Animal pattern” action returns July 20-22 with the PBA South Region Spring Hill (Fla.) Cheetah Open at Spring Hill Lanes; the PBA East Region Cap Card Scorpion Open presented by Columbia 300 at Cedar Lanes in Lebanon, Pa; the PBA Central Region Dan Kondas Memorial Scorpion Open presented by DV8, and the PBA Midwest Region Illinois Valley Viper Classic presented by Storm at Illinois Valley Super Bowl in Peru, Ill. The July 20-22 schedule also includes the PBA Southwest Region’s Luci Bonneau Memorial Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles at Palace Lanes in Houston (PBA Regional titles will be awarded to the man and/or women if either/both of the winning team are PBA members) and a joint PBA West/Northwest Region Sands Regency Regular/Senior Doubles event, presented by Ebonite, at High Sierra Lanes in Reno, Nev.

Rounding out the July schedule over the July 26-29 weekend will be the PBA East Region Appletree Classic hosted by Mid County Lanes in Middletown, Del.; a joint PBA Midwest/Central Region Laraway Lanes Senior Open presented by Allstate Insurance in New Lenox, Ill.; a joint Midwest/Central Region Dragon Palace Open presented by Ebonite at Orland Bowl in Orland Park, Ill.; the PBA South Region’s Anderson (S.C.) Senior Open at Boulevard Lanes, and the PBA West Region’s Ebonite/South Point Mixed Doubles at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas.

In all PBA regional animal pattern championships, players can pay an optional animal pattern entry fee for the right to win a paid entry into the PBA World Series of Bowling, Nov. 2-11 at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas. In all seven PBA Regions, the player who accumulates the highest number of competition points in the region’s four animal pattern events (Cheetah, Scorpion, Chameleon and Viper) will earn a World Series entry, whether or not he participates in the “optional” entry program.

Sean Rash’s recent Best Bowler ESPY Award made sports history in Alaska. According to the Anchorage Daily News, he is the first Alaskan to win an ESPY, presented annually to the top stars in a variety of sports. Four-time Iditarod sled dog racing champion Lance Mackey was a past nominee, but never won the award.
