He is a highly-trained and qualified orthopedic surgeon with a vast expertise inall facets of his work, including joint replacement surgery, sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, articular cartilage repair, and trauma. Dr. Hershey has been practicing for over forty-four years and most recently served patients at First State Orthopaedics in Newark, Delaware. He was also an Adjunct Associate Professor in University of Delaware’s Physical Therapy Department and held hospital privileges at Christiana Health Care System and Saint Francis Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware.
Dr. Hershey studied for his medical degree at Thomas Jefferson Medical College and graduated in 1968. His orthopedic surgery residency training led him to Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron, Ohio. Dr. Hershey is board certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He was a member of the US Navy’s teaching staff for orthopedic surgery in the 1970s and currently maintains active memberships with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Delaware Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Jefferson Orthopaedic Society, the Medical Society of Delaware, and the Southern Orthopaedic Association. Dr. Hershey links his successful career to hard work, life experience, education, passion, and technology. He dedicates his spare time to playing golf, cars, his family, and traveling.
