Hackathon focused on RFID, NFC and BLE mash-ups adds leading mobile solutions provider focused on enabling secure connections for a smarter world.

October 27, 2015 – Dallas, Texas – TrackHack: The Proximity ID Hackathon, the world’s first and only hackathon focused exclusively on proximity technologies like radio frequency identification (RFID), Near Field Communication (NFC) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), announced today the addition of NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ: NXPI) as a Gold sponsor for its new, global hackathon series focused on proximity ID technology solutions. Michael Neurohr, responsible for the NFC Reader Library at NXP Semiconductors, will also serve as a judge for various challenges.

Along with partner Flomio, AccelerateNFC created TrackHack: The Proximity ID Hackathon to address the cross-over and interconnection among various proximity technologies used for mobile solutions. These technologies – RFID, NFC, BLE – are the basis of proximity ID solutions and will play a pivotal role in the Internet of Things (IoT).

As mobile becomes even more pervasive, so does the demand for creative mash-ups of these proximity-based technologies. TrackHack is the first ever proximity ID technology event where hackers and developers can access ALL proximity ID tech and do what they do best: create, innovate and disrupt. The hackathon focuses on solutions addressing security, marketing and advertising, social interactions, gaming, mobile payments, as well as track and trace. Participants will compete for cash and prizes and winners will be invited to join the next AccelerateNFC class, a competitive program where selected companies participate in an intensive 12-week mentoring program designed to provide access to resources normally beyond the reach of early stage companies.

“We are excited to welcome NXP as a sponsor for TrackHack,” said Robert Sabella, co-founder and CEO of AccelerateNFC. “NXP ‘creates solutions that enable Secure Connections for a Smarter World.’ And as a provider of the most widely used NFC technology, products and solutions in our connected world, as well as RFID-enabled solutions, they bring the know-how and expertise to enable the mobile solutions we expect from our participating developers.”

NXP has a strong track record in NFC and has influenced developments in relevant markets for NFC since they co-invented the technology back in 2002. “We want to make it easy for developers to deliver innovative applications with NFC capabilities, regardless of what development platform they may be working with. We literally want to bring NFC everywhere, which means that we have to enable more people to realize their ideas for NFC applications” says Laurent Dardé, Marketing Director for NFC Infrastructure & Consumer at NXP Semiconductors. NXP equips the participants of the hackathon with the ideal solutions for rapidly integrating NFC technology:

The EXPLORE NFC, a high performance full NFC compliant expansion board that is compatible for use with the Raspberry Pi and fully supported by the NXP NFC Reader Library

The PN7120 NFC Controller SBC Kit which contains Raspberry Pi as well as BeagleBone Interface Boards and with that enables the development of a plug’n play NFC solution in a Linux, Android or any other OS environment.

The MIFARE SDK provides access to all hardware features on Java level and enables Android apps to be created for MIFARE, ICODE and NTAG more easily than ever before.

Sabella added, “NXP’s commitment to enabling more people to realize their ideas for NFC applications aligns perfectly with the vision of TrackHack, and we are looking forward to the innovations that NXP’s participation in the proximity ID hackathon will drive.”

Current TrackHack sponsors and supporting organizations include: Interact Ventures, NFC Bootcamp, The NFC Forum, Blue Bite, NXP, RFID 24/7, RAIN RFID, U Grok It, Omni-ID, HID Global, Smart Insights, University of Texas Dallas, with more joining regularly.

Registration is now open for TrackHack, November 20-22, 2015, in London at London Campus, a Google Space, and March 11-13, 2016, in Austin. Join in the hack and win cash and prizes.
