LOS ANGELES, CA – 10/14/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET) — “Southwestern USA residents are surprised to learn that toxic mold actually flourishes in their homes and workplaces in dry Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tucson, and elsewhere in southern California, southern Nevada, and Arizona,” reports Phillip Fry, Certified Environmental Hygienist and webmaster since 1999 of the mold health authority website www.moldinspector.com.

“Normally, mold grows best in areas of high humidity and abundant rainfall such as Seattle, Washington, Portland, Oregon, east Texas, Florida, and other gulf coast areas,” adds Mr. Fry, who is also a Professional Industrial Hygienist, Certified Environmental Inspector, Certified Remediation Specialist, Certified Mold Inspector, and Certified Mold Remediator.

Homes and commercial buildings in California, Arizona, and Nevada experience serious mold infestations because of four factors, according to Fry, author of five mold advice ebooks, including Mold Health Guide and Mold Legal Guide.

First, the most deadly mold species Valley Fever, which has killed several thousand people in recent years, grows only in dry, desert soils. The Mayo Clinic reports: “Valley fever is a fungal infection caused by coccidioides (kok-sid-e-OY-deze) organisms. It can cause fever, chest pain and coughing, among other signs and symptoms.”

“Two species of coccidioides fungi cause valley fever. These fungi are commonly found in soil in specific regions. The fungi’s spores can be stirred into the air by anything that disrupts the soil, such as farming, construction and wind,” adds the world famous Mayo Clinic. Wind brings Valley Fever spores into both the indoor air of buildings and the outdoor environment in desert communities.

Second, the very refrigerated air conditioning and swamp coolers that make living even possible in the hot and dry southwestern USA cities are often mold factories that grow toxic mold inside the cooling equipment and air ducts, and which spread the mold spores continually building-wide through the outward air flow from the air conditioning ducts.

Third, the commonly-used flat roofs in homes and commercial buildings in California, Arizona, and Nevada are prone to roof leaks, which allow mold-causing water to enter into ceilings and walls, wherein mold then grows rampantly—hidden and unseen by the residents and occupants, and unnoticed until the residents develop serious mold-related medical problems.

Fourth, the water supply plumbing lines in many southwestern USA buildings are often built into the concrete slab floors of the homes and workplaces. The plumbing lines degrade over time (15 to 20 years) to allow leaking water to soak carpeting, padding, and the insides of walls setting on the wet concrete slabs, and thus cause toxic mold growth. Mold begins growing after just 24 hours of wetness.

Fry recommends that real estate buyers and tenants make their purchases or rentals contingent upon mold inspection and testing of homes and commercial buildings to protect themselves against buying or renting mold-infested structures. Similarly, Fry recommends annual mold inspection and testing of all structures in mold-prone California, Arizona, and Nevada, three of the top ten mold problem states.

Mr. Fry’s firm EnviroFry Upkeep Masters provides thorough, in depth mold inspection, mold removal, and mold remediation services in all areas of all three states.
