When it comes to Thanksgiving, we know a thing or two about the best places to celebrate. Many choose to spend the holiday with family and friends, while others will hit up famous celebrations such as the Macy’s Day Parade in NYC. Thanksgiving takes place on 24th November, and if you’re travelling to the States to celebrate or just happen to be there during the holidays, you’re in for a treat. Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Hugging the base of the Great Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg is a wonderful place to visit in November, especially during Thanksgiving. Many enjoy looking at the autumn and winter trees by taking the Ober Gatlinburg Aerial Tramway, which can be found downtown. Another fantastic Thanksgiving activity is the Great Smoky Thanksgiving Arts & Crafts Show. Taking place between 22nd and 27th November, you’ll be able to find handmade gifts and crafts, all made by the Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community.
When it comes to looking for a hearty Thanksgiving 2016 feast, Old Mill up the road in Pigeon Forge is famous for its big portions, and serves a Thanksgiving menu from 10:30am to 8:30pm. Further north, you’ll find the Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant, where you can dine on delicious roast prime rib, roast turkey and apple-glazed sugar-cured ham. While you don’t need to book at Old Mill (you’ll have to wait for a table), book ahead at Applewood to avoid disappointment.
Waikiki, Hawaii

Thanksgiving is a busy time in Hawaii, and visiting the island of Oahu is one great way to kick-start the holidays. With Thanksgiving decorations and a local parade, as well as plenty of traditional feasts to enjoy throughout the capital, Honolulu, there’s plenty to do in addition to the obvious Black Friday sales. On 25th November, the Waikiki Holiday Parade commemorates Pearl Harbour, honouring veterans and survivors from the tragic 1941 attack.
The parade is a celebration of life, with marching bands, local Hawaiian live music, military officials and dignitaries taking part. Many restaurants will serve Traditional Thanksgiving dinner, but for sea views, head to Tiki’s Grill. Served from 4:00pm to 10:30pm, you can get a fantastic prixe fixe traditional meal.
New Orleans, Louisiana

Whether you’re dining on turducken (yep, that’s a three-bird roast) or enjoying the Bayou Classic Thanksgiving Day Parade at the French Market, New Orleans is a thriving and exciting city to enjoy at this time of year. Families come together to celebrate good food and good fun, which can be found throughout New Orleans.
When it comes to decadence, this city knows how it’s done. Alongside traditional turkeys you’ll find sides of cornbread, crawfish and Creole pork, with restaurants such as Arnaud’s serving up delicious Thanksgiving meals. When the sun sets and you’re looking to continue the celebrations, get down to the New Orleans City Park for Celebration in the Oaks, a dazzling holiday lights festival that’s fun for the whole family.
Chicago, Illinois

Chicago in November is a great time to visit, just before the city’s temperature gets slightly too cold, while airfare and hotel prices are lower than peak times. The Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade sees dozens of huge balloons passing over the city, with huge festive characters and cartoon icons gracing the crowds.
The city is also famous for its ‘Turkey Trots’ which take place across Chicago, such as the annual 5K Edison Park Turkey Trot and the Turkey Day Run, the latter being the city’s longest-running Thanksgiving tradition, and both great options if you’re looking to burn off that rich holiday food! Speaking of which, you can find a delicious four-course Thanksgiving meal at David Burke’s Primehouse Restaurant, which is famous for serving some of the best steak in the city.
