NOBA Announces Registrations for Tuition-Free Summer Dance Camps
WHO: In partnership with the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission, St. Jerome Church (Kenner), and Wilson Charter School/Broadmoor Improvement Association, the New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA) announces two, tuition-free dance camps this summer.
WHAT: Registrations will be held for two, tuition-free dance camps this summer that will offer all levels of dance students ages 6-18 a chance to dance while having fun. Space is limited for NOBA’s nationally award-winning programs. There is no audition, and classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
On June 2-26, the Twilight Dance Camps will provide evening classes in ballet, tap, hip hop, and modern dance for ages 6-18 at seven locations in Orleans and Jefferson parishes. Days and times of classes vary based on age, type of class, and location.
On July 7-25, the Adventures in Dance Camp will be held from 9 AM to 3:30 PM in The Chevron Studio at the NORDC Lyons Center . Youth ages 6-11 will experience exciting adventures in movement ranging from ballet to cultural dance to hip hop. Innovative activities involving nutrition, healthy lifestyles, arts and crafts, reading, and more are also included in the program. The Adventures Camp culminates in a fully costumed performance that families can come and enjoy. A healthy breakfast and lunch are served, and scholarships are available for the $75 supplies fee. After-care until 5:15 PM is offered for an additional supplies fee of $60.

WHY: In 1992, NOBA established a groundbreaking partnership with the New Orleans Recreation Department that leveled the playing field, making it possible for any child to study high quality dance instruction. Over the past 20 years, these nationally award-winning education programs have provided over 40,000 tuition-free dance classes to more than 13,000 families. The after-school programs are designed to cultivate a child’s appreciation for the arts, while building life skills, including self-esteem, discipline, confidence and team work that speak to the child’s individual growth. Through multiple partnerships in three parishes, NOBA annually offers over 5,000 tuition-free classes, performances, and workshops to participants of all ages.
NOBA is the Central Gulf region’s premiere presenting and service organization dedicated solely to the art of dance. NOBA’s dynamic Main Stage season annually features a diverse array of world-class companies and artists. Each year NOBA provides concerts, classes, workshops and lectures to more than 25,000 area dance enthusiasts of all ages. In addition, NOBA’s nationally recognized award-winning education programs provide the youth of our community access to quality arts programs with over 3,000 free dance classes and workshops annually at ten sites throughout the Greater New Orleans area.
NOBA is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA); a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council, and the NEA, a Federal agency; a Community Arts Grant made possible by the City of New Orleans, and is administered by the Arts Council of New Orleans (ACNO); a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council, and is administered through ACNO.
