Important Dec. 6-8 Estates Auction at New Orleans Auction Galleries to feature over 1,700 lots of antique to contemporary fine art, furniture, silver, estate jewelry and more
On Dec. 6-8, New Orleans Auction Galleries will offer over 1,700 lots of antique to contemporary fine art, sculpture, furniture, silver, clocks, estate jewelry, designer furs, Asian decorative arts and more from several important estates and private collections.
The three-day sale includes an extensive collection of 16th to 19th century English and Continental fine art, including paintings by Giovanni Paolo Pannini, Nicolaes Maes, John Hayls and Giovanni Battista Tiepolo along with a fine collection of 16th and 17th century works on paper. Other highlights include a pair of late 17th century Italian baroque walnut cabinets, a 17th century Italian carved walnut sacristy cabinet, an exceptional pair of continental rock crystal, marble and bronze dore tiered five-light candelabra, a Napoleon III ormolu- and porcelain-mounted kingwood cabinet and an 18th century antique Aubusson tapestry depicting Cupid and Psyche.
Silver offerings include a rare Victorian silverplate tea table, a collection of modernist sterling silver, and a large selection of Reed & Barton “Francis I” hollowware. The sale’s Friday session features a selection of clocks, including a Louis XIV parcel-gilt and polychromed fixed hand clock, ca. 1700 and an exceptional French Restauration bronze dore mantel clock.
Modern and contemporary artists represented include Pedro Friedeberg, Ida Kohlmeyer, James Michalopoulos, William Hollingsworth, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Elaine de Kooning and Rufino Tamayo.
Sunday will open with a fine selection of estate jewelry, including an assortment of men’s watches, a stunning platinum and diamond ring set with a 6.2 carat cushion brilliant-cut diamond and an extensive selection of tanzanite jewelry.
New Orleans Auction Galleries will also be offering an original painting by acclaimed New Orleans artist Terrance Osborne to benefit St. Augustine High School, a local all-boys school. Osborne’s “They’re Coming” was commissioned by the school and depicts the renowned St. Augustine “Marching 100.” The band was recently invited to perform in the 2014 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Ca.
New Orleans Auction Galleries is open for exhibition through Dec. 5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, excluding Sundays. There will be an evening preview reception on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. The auction begins on Friday, Dec. 6 at 12 p.m. and at 10 a.m. on Saturday Dec. 6 and Sunday Dec. 8.
