A Facebook group founded in 2010 campaigning for Bianca Del Rio to host Saturday Night Live has found a new life after the comedy queen was crowned the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race season six.
“Let Bianca Del Rio Host SNL” currently has over 27,000 supporters who believe that Bianca can’t do any worse than Justin Bieber. A similar campaign worked for Betty White, who went on to win her 800th Emmy hosting the late-night sketch show back in 2010. Of course, it might be tricky for a drag queen — who’s already in full make-up and costume — to pull off a hosting gig that requires embodying different characters. But then again, Lady Gaga did it.
Meanwhile, Bianca is ready to show off her comedic chops in Hurricane Bianca, a feature-length comedy described as “Tootsie meets Revenge of the Nerds, or Mrs. Doubtfire for the Jackass generation.” When a New York teacher moves to a small town in Texas and gets fired for being gay, he pulls a Miss Viola Swamp and returns disguised as a mean “lady” to seek his revenge.
In order to finish up their opus, Bianca and writer-director Matt Kugelman are seeking funding for Hurricane Bianca through Indiegogo. They’re still a ways away from their $125,000 goal but with 26 days to go, and a slew of enviable gifts for donating, they should hopefully meet their goal in time.
