Last week, I had the opportunity to head to Boston for a work conference. Since I’ve never been to Boston, I was looking forward to the trip – the conference and the chance to see the city. I also have a lot of imaginary friends in the eastern United States that I forced to visit me.
Winning.
If you follow me on Instagram, you got some peeks of my trip. But, this will be a photo dump of some of my other trip photos. Because who DOESN’T love someone else’s vacation photos?
Oh? What? You don’t …
Well, it’s my blog. So here goes.
Boston is truly a gorgeous place. It’s clean, it’s green and it’s totally walkable. We were put up in a lovely hotel in the center of downtown, so when we had downtime, we did lots of wandering and I snapped some photos.
We walked through the Boston Common, Prudential Center and Newbury Street.
Then my amazing friend Melissa, who I met nearly 7 years ago on The Knot while we were planning our weddings, took us on a pseudo tour of the financial district, the freedom trail, the harbor and Faneuil Hall.
Meeting online friends in person is seriously one of my favorite things. Melissa is amazingly cool and was a wonderful tour guide. I was really sad to see her go home.
And we were all in black and white stripes? What are the odds? (This is my wonderful coworker Melissa, who I was lucky enough to travel with. She tolerated my insane touristy-ness.)
That night, we met up with a few other Knotties. All of us were married in December 2007 and have stayed in touch since then. (Marilyn, Mel, Kim, Kellie and E)
The next morning, Melissa and I got up bright and early and hopped on the trolley. That gave us an opportunity to see the entire city. It was a whirlwind tour, covering every nook and cranny of Boston.
After checking in at my conference, I had another opportunity to meet up with more friends for dinner – Lyndsay from That 70s House and Brittany from Hudson’s House.
We had a delicious dinner at Lucca in the North End. Then, we picked up a treat at Mike’s Pastry. I seriously love these girls.
The next day, I was in sessions all day, but Melissa and I scored tickets to Wicked at the Boston Opera House that evening. I have been wanting to see this show for ages.
The venue was lovely.
And the show did not disappoint! I’ve been singing all the songs since then. I’m sure it’s pleasant for everyone around me.
So, that was Boston in a Kim-sized nutshell. After my conference wrapped up on Friday afternoon, I hopped on the Amtrack (LEGROOM AND INTERNET) and cruised to visit my friend Shannon (and family) from Bottle Pop Party for the weekend!
She actually visited us in Illinois for Henry’s party, so it was so wonderful to see her again so soon. And they really rolled out the welcome mat for me, which was amazingly appreciated!
We did some antiquing, some shopping and some sightseeing. I even had the opportunity to experience Terrain, which is the dreamiest store I’ve ever encountered. My head nearly exploded as a result of all the inspiration.
But, I think the highlight was going out with Shannon and Lizzie Beth from Lizzie in Progress. We laughed so very much that night. And did a fair amount of drinking wine, too. In other words, perfection.
Shannon and John also took me by many of the Philly tourist stops, which was fun.
And we also hit the new Brooklyn Flea Philly.
I am serious when I tell you that some of my very best friends have been met through this blog. I’ve had the opportunity to connect with some of the most amazing people after they started out as imaginary friends. This trip reminded me of how lucky I truly am.
So, that’s my lengthy recap of a truly fabulous trip. It was lovely to do so many new things, but I was quite ready to snuggle my little boy when I got home on Sunday night. The east coast was lovely, but it’s true that there really is no place like home.
