After being together for more than 10 years, Hollywood superstars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt shocked the world when they announced that they both agreed to a divorce last September. The couple remained silent about the details of their divorce but Jolie finally broke her silence.

Jolie’s newest movie, which tackles issues about family and loss, provoked the actress to talk about her own family in an interview with BBC News. She directed the film ‘First They Killed My Father’, a movie based on the real-life Cambodian experiences of her adopted son, Maddox, who is now 15 years old.

According to the 41-year-old actress, their family faced a very difficult time but she remained positive that her family would be able to come back stronger after this ordeal. She also claimed that her family is determined to make it through.

“I don’t want to say very much about that except it was a very difficult time. We are focusing on the health of our family, and so we will be, we will be stronger when we come out of this because that’s what we’re determined to do as a family,” Jolie told ‘Good Morning America‘.

Rumors about their split immediately spread like wildfire as some have claimed that Jolie divorced Pitt because he was physically abusing Maddox. Pitt was cleared of any charges but his image as a father was affected. Jolie was questioned about Pitt’s parenting skills as she claimed in her old interviews that he was a “wonderful father.”

When asked if Pitt was still that kind of father, she answered with conviction:

“Of course,” she said.

“We will always be a family, always.” she added.

The actress/director also shared that she and her family are trying to cope up with what was happening because she knows that they are not the only couple who are suffering through divorce.

“Many people find themselves in this situation. My whole family have all been through a difficult time. My focus is my children, our children. As I said, we are and forever will be a family. I am coping with finding a way through to make sure that this somehow makes us stronger and closer,” Jolie stated.

Jolie’s newest movie is set in Cambodia and will have its worldwide premiere this weekend.
