Science says that when we die, our bodies begin to rot by nature. However some incidents may astound us; Apparently not all corpses have rotten, some believed it was symbolic, others believe it was preserved.

1. Medger Evers  (July 2, 1925 – June 12, 1963)

Medger was assasinated by a member of the White Citizen’s Council- a group of white supremacist in the US, he was for the concretion of civil rights of the black people. 28 years after his burial, his body was unearthed, only to find out that it is as it was earthed.

2. Saint Betina Zita (1212- April 27 1272)

Saint Zita or most known as Sitha, is an Italian saint, patron of maids and domestic servants. Her body was unearthed 700 years after her body was buried, her corpse remained intact and is displayed at Lucca, Italy in San Frediano.

3. Dashi-Dorzho Itigilov (1852–1927)

Dashi-Dorzho Itigilov is a Buddhist lama of the Tibetain Tradition, He is remembered for his lifelike corpse. In 2002, his body had been described to as similar to a dead body of 36 hrs.

4. La Doncella

La Doncella was 15 years of age when she was sacrificed in the Argentinian mountain. It was scientifically explained that her 500 year old corpse had been preserved due to Andes’ cool temperature and air contents.

5. Lady Xin Zhui

Lady Xin Zhui is of chinese origin. She was wife of a noble during the Han dynasty. It had been over 2000 years, her body still intact, including her soft skin  and functional joints. Questions remain up to know of how her body was able to survive and resist decay.

6. Saint Catherine Laboure (May 2, 1806-December 31, 1876)

St. Catherine was one of the witnesses of the Blessed Virgin Mary apparition. Her body had been buried for 57 years and was unearthed for her beatification, and amazingly was found to have been preserved. Her body is on public display in Paris.

7. St Bernadette Soubirous of Lourdes

“Bernadette”  is the eldest daughter of a miller from Lourdes, France. Her body was exhumed 30 years after her burial for her beatification as saint. Her body is preserved in a chapel formerly known as the Convent of St. Gildard of Nevers.

8. St. Jean Baptiste Marie Vianney (May 8 1786 – August 4 1859)

He is known in English as St. John Vianney. His body can be found in the Basilica at Ars, France in its altar.

9. Blessed Pope Pius IX

Pope Pius IX was pope for 31 years; in his last breath he was believed to be praying the rosary when he had a seizure due to epilepsy.

10. Rosalia Lombardo

Rosalia Lombardo’s body can be found inside Capuchin Catacombs in Palermo, Italy. The 2 year old child was preserved by Alfredo Salafia, an embalmer.
