Please note: The main team are currently away at E3 but the skeleton crew will be filling in for us this week. Normal service will resume next Monday. Be sure to write in more this week as Jimmy and the skeletons get real lonely.

The evening Inbox feels let down by Sony at E3, loves the new Zelda and doesn’t agree with fanboyism. To join in with the discussions yourself email gamecentral@ukmetro.co.uk

Sony let him down
As a Vita owner, I feel hugely let down by the Sony E3 conference. That SCEA would choose to focus on PS4 was a given and makes perfect sense as it’s Sony’s main console and their best chance for success in North America. However Sony spent about as much time discussing Kinect as they did the PS Vita, with only a short trailer of upcoming games all of which had previously been announced or released. Even more worrying was Andrew House stating beforehand that Sony saw the PS Vita as more of an “enhancer” for PS4 now, rather than a standalone console that deserves its own games.

It’s a bit of a kick in the teeth when you’ve bought a portable console in good faith to then be told that after 2 and a bit years it’ll mainly be used as a mediocre peripheral for a £350 console that you don’t own (and now, likely never will), or as a device to stream games to through PS Now. Especially given that the latter is unlikely to work effectively here for 2-3 years and will be limited to places with an excellent Wi-Fi connection. Hardly what you expect from a portable console.

There are still a number of excellent 3rd party and indie games to look forward to in 2014, but unless Sony pull their finger out and announce some new 1st party titles at Gamescom or TGS, the future is looking bleak. They could learn a lot from Nintendo, who are bending over backwards to make the Wii U successful and look likely to succeed. Unfortunately Sony don’t seem to have the desire to make the PS Vita a success and are content to let it whither on the vine.

P.S. Cheers Jimmy and the Skeletons for keeping the site functional while Jenkins and Hargreaves are double-teaming E3. I almost did some work there this morning before the new Inbox popped up. Whew!

Jimmy: We would never want you doing work. We’re sorry you almost had to.

New order of Zelda
I was playing Zelda Windwaker HD the other day thinking how incredible the game looked and then along comes this new Wii U Zelda trailer and blows it out of the water! Even though barely anything was shown of the game it looked absolutely fantastic. As did The Order 1886 game on the Playstation 4 (although it needed a splash of colour).

PS Anyone else sick to the stomach of hearing the term ‘IP’?

The anti-fanboy?

Hello Jimmy and skeletons. E3 is here again and already starting to see the people arguing about which console is better and whether Sony or MS conference was better. Not sure why people get so upset when someone else likes a different console. I am from the Sony camp myself and I love my PS3 (also have a Wii gathering dust). I enjoy playing my games on it and watching videos.

I have friends who are on Xbox and I obviously don’t call them utter fools and spit on their faces for owning an Xbox. I do it for other reasons :) And if I had the time I would have purchased Xbox 360 as well since they have some cool games too. I barely have enough time to play on my PS3 and PC. If I manage 3-4 hours of game time then it’s been a good week. Some weeks I get a good 6-7 hours.

And about 7.5 months ago I ordered a special “game” that takes 9 months to make. Yes, I’m going to be a dad soon so even less time for games. Anyways, I digress. I have watched both Sony and

MS conferences and I have to say none of them were amazing in any way unlike last year where Sony came out on top.

I actually enjoyed the UbiSoft conference the most (except for the dance game). And their presenter (Aisha Tyler) did a really great job. I would recommend watching it on YouTube. At the end of the day, I want Xbox to do well. Because if they do Sony will have to up their game and that will be good for me and all other PS gamers. And it works the same the other way round. If Sony didn’t do so well last year MS wouldn’t have done their uturns and that wouldn’t have helped anyone. So we should let the companies fight it out and we gamers should enjoy the benefits and the great new games that come.

Skeleton: Congratulations on your new gam… I mean baby. Unless your wife actually gives birth to a game, which would probably be the ET Atari one.

He needs to get a (another) life

I’m more tempted to get a PS4 now than I ever was before, frankly I just wanted to move away from gaming but Assassin’s Creed Unity with its 4 player co-op and the improvements in single player, had me salivating. Also there’s Batman Arkham Knight with the Batmobile being just enough to get my interest again, even though it is Arkham City: Batmobile HD edition.

Metal Gear Solid V had me with Ground Zeroes and The Witcher 3 looks unbelievable. Only trouble is what am I going to do with my PS3 and the games I still enjoy playing? I need a second life!!

Where’s the golf?

Hello the crew, EA have had quite a decent show this E3 but why no PGA Tour golf games this year? Or is it being released for 360/PS3 this year. Also has there been any news from Konami regarding PES2015?

Laughing, laughing man

Had to laugh at the weekend when I logged into Origin and they had a sale which stated ‘ up 70% off game you will actually play’. Seems like a cheap dig at Steam, no? Also I bought Battlefield 3 for £4.50 and couldn’t get it working which was pretty funny.
