Channel 4′s controversial new programme Sex Box left viewers in a state of awkwardness and confusion tonight, with many pondering over a series of unanswered sex questions following its debut.

The show sees couples stepping into a big white box for a saucy rendezvous and as soon as they’re done, the horny pairs sit under bright lights to be interviewed by a panel of a judges.

Three couples were up for the challenge in tonight’s debut and subjected themselves to a grilling by Mariella Frostrup and experts in the field of sex.

But while it was slated as being one of the most controversial shows to hit TV screens, rather than leaving fans appalled, in shock or running for cover, it gripped Twitter with many keen for more dirt than Channel 4 offered.

As well as complaining about the sexy scenes being hidden from camera view, Twitter users put forward a string of questions and ponderings of which the answers weren’t made clear during the broadcast. Here are some of the best…

Tuned into #sexbox for a few sec…..What the…Is this a wind up? It's like something out of Brass Eye…—

What do the audience do while the couples are shagging? I hope the #SexBox is soundproofed.—

Is it like one of those automated public toilets? If they don't finish in time do the sprinklers come on and the doors open? #sexbox—

When are they sending just one lad in with his laptop and a bottle of moisturiser? #sexbox—

Imagine getting laid walking out to go to the bathroom and being interviewed instead by 3 horny presenters. I'd die #sexbox—

And many were disappointed with the fact no romping was shown on TV – despite the programme description giving them prior warning of this.

How this programme not gonna show even a little footage though? We need proof god dammit! The people prob playing xbox in there #SexBox—

Others just couldn’t shake the similarity between SexBox and ITV gameshow The Cube.

This is like the hardest challenge on The Cube ever. #sexbox—

If #SexBox was combined with THE CUBE then we might have a show worth watching! ..Transparent walls & live audience would help things along!—
Jim Sheridan (@Jim_Sheridan) October 07, 2013

Phillip Schofield isn't gonna be happy when he finds out what people are doing in his Cube… #sexbox—
Genevieve Wilson (@genwilson95) October 07, 2013

And some viewers just simply did not get what the point of the TV show was at all.

What was the point? Video diaries at home might have produced more honesty than a television studio… #SexBox—

Not really sure what the point of that was. #sexbox—

There is nothing anyone can learn from this, it is just a rubbish nonsense tv ever! Insane. #sexbox—
