Post-Halloween Blues can be a debilitating illness, but there is an antidote: haunts that stay open in November!
Below is a list of Los Angeles haunted houses, plays, tours, and other Halloween attractions that remain open after October 31. Most will give their final performances on November 1; some will continue throughout mid-November.
Enjoy them while you can!
Alone: Index of Absorption in Los Angeles
1141 Seward Street, Los Angeles, 90038
Alone: An Existential Haunting presents the final installment of a four-part mega-work, “Unweave the Rainbow,” which began in June, taking audiences through four indices of Light: Diffusion, Refraction, Reflection, and now Absorption. The 45-minute walk-through experience takes each guest on a solo trip tailored to the individual.
Alone:Index of Absorption’s final performance takes place on November 1, starting at 5pm.Tickets are $65 for General Admission, $80 for Priority Access.
No one under 18 is allowed. You will be required to sign a waiver. Street parking is available but difficult; Alone recommends you use the Luxe on-demand valet app.
Carmilla at the Lyric Hyperion in Los Angeles

The other great Victorian vampire story, J. Sheridan LeFanu’s Carmilla, gets the stage treatment this Halloween season, courtesy of an adaptation by David MacDowell Blue, directed by Mark Hein. The story has lonely Laura befriended by a mysterious guest, whose name is an anagram for the sanguinary Countess Mircalla Karnstein.
The plays runs through November 8 on Fridays & Saturdays at 8pm and on Sundays at 3pm.

Attack of the Rotting Corpses
Zombie Joe’s Undergound Theatre

Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre presents a new “Golden Halloween Edition” of this comedy-thriller about a condo complex in the San Fernando Valley, where the contaminated water supply transforms residents and pets into zombies! Directed by Josh T. Ryan, written and produced by Zombie Joe.
The play gives its final performance on Sunday, November 1 at 7:30pm

Castle Dark

The normally family-friendly Castle Park transforms into Castle Dark on weekends in October. When the sun goes down, the terror arrives, courtesy of mazes, monsters, and revamped rides.
For Halloween 2015, there are three haunted mazes: Dominion of the Damned, Shiverton, and CarnEvil. Also, the Ghost Blasters ride is inhabited by zombies and ghosts.
Castle Dark runs a final day on November 1. Hours are from 7pm to park closing time.
Advance tickets are only $8 – good for unlimited rides, miniature golf, and the Halloween attractions. Discount offer ends October 1.

Day of the Dead Fiest
Mercantile Place, between Fairs Oaks and Raymond Avenue in Pasadena
Following upon its annual Halloween celebration (see below), Old Pasadena presents its first-ever Day of the Dead Fiesta. The community event offers hands-on craft activities hosted by the Armory Center for the Arts and Color Me Mine Pasadena. Make-up artists will transform your face into a calavera (sugar skull). Free homemade paletas (popsicles) will be offered to the first 200 guests. Dressed in extravagantly plumed costumes, Aztec Fire Dancers will provide an authentic ritual performance to bless the altar installation.
From October 30 through November 1, there will also be self-guided tours of Day of the Dead altars at participating businesses in Old Pasadena; check the event website for a map. The Best Traditional and Contemporary Altars will be selected by a panel of judges and awarded $500 each. If you snap a photo of your favorite altar and tag it #OldPas in Instagram, you will be entered to win one of three random $50 giveaways.

Dearly Departed G-G-G-Ghosts Tour
Central Hollywood
Join”RIP the Undertaker” as he relates tragic tales while leading tourists on a one-mile walk through Horrific Haunting Grounds, Creepy Crime Scenes and Foreboding Famous Landmarks. Each mourner is provided with an individual wireless receiver and headphones so no one will miss a word. Dress in black to mourn the dead.The tour lasts about 2 Hours.Those who arrive early may peruse Dearly Departed’s museum of deathly artifacts, including a piece of the first Hollywood Sign and an original costume from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Dearly Departed Ghost Tours continue on November 1, 6-7, 14-15, 20-21. All tours begin at 7pm in Central Hollywood; the exact location is revealed when you purchase tickets, which cost $30.
Drunken Devil: The Sinners Soiree

Drunken Devil Productions – a self-described “Los Angeles-based, horror-centric live-entertainment company – presents its first-ever Halloween event, which offers visitors a chance to “encounter a menagerie of twisted, monstrous manifestations of vice and depravity.” 18-and-over only.
Prices are $18 for general admission, $25 for front-of-the-line tickets, and $50 for VIP privileges (includes access to the lounge and complimentary drinks).
Drunken Devil presents the final Sinner’s Soiree on November 1, from 7pm to 11:30pm.

The Empty Grave
Laguna Hills Mall

Hollywood Gothique has not entered The Empty Grave since it moved to a new location Laguna Hills for Halloween 2014; however, we have plans to make it out this weekend. Since its 2009 debut, this haunted maze had expanded into something quite colorful and entertaining at its original Anaheim location; we can only imagine that it has continued to improve at the new venue.
The Empty Grave remains open on Sunday, November 1, 7-10pm.

Los Angeles Live Steamers Ghost Train in Griffith Park

The Los Angeles Live Steamers Railroad Museum revs up their 7-1/2 gauge model trains for a Halloween ride filled with spooky scenes and astral projections. The twenty-minute outdoor ride is equivalent to driving by dozens of elaborately decked-out yard haunts, featuring amazing lighting effects. The fright-factor is completely family-safe – lots of great visuals but no live monsters attacking you from the shadows.
The Ghost trains will run on November 1, 7-10pm. Tickets are $15.

Motel 6 Feet Under
1960 South Anaheim Way in Anaheim
This Orange County attraction describes itself as “Anaheim’s sunken treasure…Located across the freeway from Disneyland at the Anaheim Business Expo Center. It’s the final staycation!”
According to its website, Motel 6 Fee Under is a non-profit effort intended to “provide job training in the field of construction and theatrical arts for underserved adults,” including “court ordered volunteers” and “adults with criminal records.”
Motel 6 Feet Under continues on November 1, 7-10pm.
Tickets are $7.50 for the preview weekend. Thereafter, prices are $15 for one ticket, $20 for two tickets, and $25 for a fast pass.

Perdition Home
5181 Manor View Drive in Yorba Linda
The self-proclaimed “Goriest Home Haunt in Orange County” should appeal to fans of hard-core Halloween horror. Though Hollywood Gothique has never seen the full haunt, we did experience a mini-maze version at ScareLA in 2014 – filled with eviscerated bodies and electric firecrackers for a jolting effect. We understand that Perdition Home has more going for it than gore; it’s a fairly elaborate home haunt, along the lines of the Backwoods Maze in Burbank (an acknowledge source of inspiration).
This Halloween, Perdition Home remains open on November 1. Hours are approximately 7-11pm. Learn more here.
Rise of the Jack O’Lanterno

We attended Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns at Santa Anita Park this Halloween, but Descanso Gardens is the must-see location. As much an art exhibition as a tour, The Rise offers over 5,000 Jack O’Lanterns arranged in themed installations over the course of a one-third mile trail, accompanied by original music. See a safari-full of larger-than-life animals, an auto show, movie and television stars, dinosaurs, and a 50-foot dragon. The atmosphere is old-school Halloween fun, sometimes spooky but never scary. There are no mechanical pop-scares or costumed actors, just gorgeous sights and sounds.The walk is leisurely, requiring from 45 to 75 minutes, depending on how long you want to pause and gaze in wonder.

Sinister Pointe: Fear the Darkness

We have not seen Sinister Pointe’s new show, Fear the Darkness, but it sounds fascinating: visitors choose and confront their fears, guided in absolute darkness only by a friend in a control room equipped with infrared cameras. Visitors may select from Clowns, the Living Dead, Deranged, and Possession.
Prices at the door will be $25 for General Admission and $35 for Fast Pass; there is a $5-discount for advance online purchases, with an additional $2-off for the promo code “Fear.”
Fear the Darkness will be open on November 1, 5-8. Hours are 6-10pm on Thursdays and Sundays, 6pm-midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are $25. The website is here.
To Die For Mandy at Chromolume Theatre

Matt Hewes’ play asks the question: “If you were trapped in a high desert Chinese restaurant with two racketeers, two prostitutes, a mental, a Christian, and a vampire offered to make you a vampire to help fight the vampire known as The Demon of Death, or go out and let the Demon of Death take his revenge, which would you choose?”
To Die For Mandy’s remaining performances are on November 1 and November 6-8. All performances begin at 7pm.
Tickets are $20 at the door, $15 in advance, and half-off if you come in costume.

The West Hollywood Haunted Pub Crawl 2015
October 15 @ 6:30 pm – November 14 @ 6:30 pm | $50
The West Hollywood Haunted Pub Crawl invites you to partake of spirits (in both senses of the word) during a three-hour tour of haunted hang-outs, hotels, restaurants, and clubs, including Pink Taco, Chateau Marmont, The Den, Sunset Trocadero, The Comedy Store, Riot House, Saddle Ranch, and The Sunset Tower Hotel. Along the one-mile trek, a “Gore Guide” will regale you with sinister side of West Hollywood history, revealing the human stories that lie behind the alleged hauntings.
The Haunted Pub Crawl runs through November 21, on Fridays at 7:30pm and on Sundays at 7pm.

Wicked Lit Halloween Theatre Festival

Wicked Lit continues at the Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery through November 14 on weekends and some weeknights. All shows start at 7:30pm, but it is a good idea to arrive before then – the “atmosphere” begins early.The Wicked Lit Halloween Theatre Festival‘s seventh season presents a trilogy of immersive dramas based on classic horror literature: The Grove of Rashomon, The Ebony Frame, and The Fall of the House of Usher; all of these are wrapped together by The System, inspired by Poe’s “The System of Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether” (which, being set in an asylum literally being run by inmates, offers an excellent centerpiece for the evening’s entertainment).
Wicked Lit continuesThursday-through-Sunday until November 14. All performances begin at 7:30pm, but it is a good idea to arrive early, as there are little things going on even before the play officially begins.
