Norfolk – Northeast Community College is taking steps to better serve the needs of residents in a portion of the western region of its 20 county service area.
The first meeting of the Northeast Community College Tri-County Adult and Continuing Education Advisory Committee will be held Tuesday, December 3, at 4 p.m. at the Rock County High School in Bassett.
Wayne Erickson, dean of institutional advancement at Northeast, said the intent of the committee is to come up with programming ideas to serve Keya Paha, Brown and Rock counties. “Our goal is to have the committee provide us with recommendations for programing in the three counties so we can begin to schedule for the spring 2014 semester. This advisory committee will be vital in offering us ideas on what credit and non-credit classes Northeast should offer.”
The establishment of the advisory committee would serve as a means of communicating to Northeast Community as to what areas should be addressed to enhance educational opportunities in the three counties.
Erickson said the advisory committee is another way Northeast Community College wants to strengthen its presence in North Central Nebraska. “With dual credit classes for high school students and continuing education opportunities in areas such as nursing and emergency medical technicians, we would like to regenerate our partnership in Keya Paha, Brown and Rock counties. This advisory community will help us plan
a course of action.”
Several years ago, similar committees in Ainsworth, Bassett and Springview recommended programing suggestions that Northeast offered in the area.
Erickson said they have 12 residents (four from each county) who have agreed to serve on the committee. Now the College is looking for people to offer ideas for program offerings. “Residents who have suggestions or ideas for programming opportunities or needs, should get in touch with a member of the committee in their county that we have identified as a contact person,“ he said.
