Event Description
Invitation to a lunchtime discussion about “social” entrepreneurship in the Western Cape

The African Social Entrepreneurs Network is assisting the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the UCT Graduate School of Business to convene a number of focus groups about “social” entrepreneurship in the Western Cape.

There are many entrepreneurs who would not necessarily label themselves as “social” entrepreneurs, yet recognise the importance of their work having a positive social impact. Are you one of them?

We are organising a focus group on Thursday 15 May at 12h30 at Daddy.O at The Old Biscuit Mill for a small group of entrepreneurs interested in sharing their views on this important topic. Lunch will be served. The session will last approximately 90 minutes.

Over the past year the Western Cape government has been working on a strategy to promote social innovation and social enterprise in the province. Focus groups have been put together to gather input that will form part of the formal consultation process for the provincial strategy. It will also inform our engagement with National Government around the social economy policy they are busy developing.

These strategic processes are driven by three main agendas. Firstly, government would like to create 260,000 jobs in the social sector, as per the New Growth Path. Secondly, government is struggling to meet the demand for social services and is exploring innovative ways of meeting this need. Finally government has realised that they need to be proactive and create an enabling environment for social enterprises and business start-ups.

These policies will greatly influence the future of social development in the Western Cape, so please join us to voice your opinion and influence them in a collaborative manner.

Please indicate your willingness to participate by emailing george@daddyo.co.za.
The deadline to RSVP is Tuesday 13 May at 16h00. Space is limited.

We will treat all findings with confidentiality, and will only report on overall findings.

Kind regards,
