According to a new study, the effects of the blue light exposure involved in using your smartphone at night may not be so bad for you if you’ve had ample exposure to daytime light, which may help combat sleep disturbances. ET Telecom reports that according to the study from Uppsala University in Sweden, daytime bright light exposure did not affect sleep in young healthy students who used a self-luminous tablet in the evening.

Frida Rangtell, doctoral student at the university, said,

Our most important finding was that the issue of whether screen light in the evening could interfere with your sleep is more complex than previously highlighted, and that there are certain important factors (such as daytime exposure to light) that affect this.”

Further, melatonin levels – the hormone affecting sleep-wake cycles – were also found to have no adverse effects.
