The Office of Special Trustee (OST) was created to improve the accountability and management of Indian funds held in trust by the federal government. As trustee, the Department of the Interior has the primary fiduciary responsibility to manage both Tribal trust funds and Individual Indian Monies (IIM) accounts.

This position is located in the Department of Interior, Office of Special Trustee for American Indians (OST), Office of Trust Records, Division of Records Management Operations (OTR), Division of Records Management Research (DRMO), and Inventory Control, Lenexa, KS. The incumbent of this position contributes to the mission of the OTR by providing safeguarding and inventory services of records stored within the American Indian Records Repository (AIRR).

Salary Information: GS-05 $31,944 – $41,530 per annum. _*First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level._

This is a full-time position that has a full performance level of GS-05.

1. Use the local automated database system to track the receipt, movement, and stored location of records within the OTR internal departments.

2. Ensures correct boxes are delivered and shelved for indexing; retrieved and returned in the same condition for archival storage when indexing is complete.

3. Identifies, resolves and advises higher authorities on any shelf location discrepancies when the system data and physical record locations are incomplete or inaccurate.

4. Makes suggestions and recommendation about how to improve the efficiency of the work.

5. **Experience:**To qualify at the GS-05 grade level, you must have at least one FULL year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. **Specialized experience is defined as and must include the following:**demonstrated experience using simple or self-indexing filing systems in a records storage facility or warehouse; entering data into databases; organizing and filing documents.

OR

Four full years (120 semester hours) of education above high school at an accredited post-secondary institution. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) _beyond the second year_ is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
