## General Description:

A basic science lab in the field of cardiovascular research is seeking a Research Technologist. The lab investigates mechanisms of vascular dysfunction and develops and tests therapeutic targets for these important diseases. The candidate will work closely with the faculty investigator and perform enzyme activity assays, western blots, basic cell culture, proteomic experiments, and assist with care, dissection and procurement of rodent tissues for experimental assays with supervision.

* Performs laboratory tests which include mouse handling, genotyping, mouse histology staining, SDS-PAGE and Western blot, and enzyme activity assays.
* Responsible for maintaining and managing mice colonies and maintaining accurate census as well as performing routine analyses and tests on mice.
* Following experimental protocols, monitors animals and maintains health record in accordance with USDA and AALAC guidelines.
* Sacrifices and dissects animal tissues as needed.
* Prepares tissue for biochemical endpoints and histology.
* Maintains accurate data records.
* Operates requisite laboratory equipment and instruments; records data; maintains and makes minor adjustments to equipment.
* Uses universal safety precautions to protect self and co-workers from biohazardous materials. Complies with biohazard safety standards through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical and biological agents in the workplace.
* Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures. Uses sterile techniques to avoid contaminating lab experiments.
* Prepares, cleans, sterilizes and maintains laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments used in research experiments.
* Monitors inventory levels, orders materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures, counts orders upon receipt. Work requires basic use of scientific methods and procedures.
* Using scientific knowledge may develop own independent experiments.

## Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or related field required. Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.

Ability to utilize animal models in experiments. Basic knowledge of MS office is required.
