Connecticut College seeks a creative and energetic administrator and educator to serve as Dean of Multicultural Affairs/ Associate Dean of Institutional Equity and Inclusion, beginning in September. Located in New London, Connecticut, on a hillside overlooking Long Island Sound and encompassing a 750-acre arboretum, Connecticut College is a highly selective institution with nearly 1900 students pursuing four-year bachelor's degrees. The College is committed to creating a vibrant, inclusive community and has been named one of the nation's friendliest campuses for LGBTQ students. The new dean, reporting to the Dean of Institutional Equity and Inclusion, will support the development of an inclusive campus community where all student, faculty, and staff identities are affirmed and supported. The Dean will collaborate with campus community members and New London partners to assess community needs and lead efforts to further develop the collective diversity and multicultural competence of the Connecticut College community. The Dean will develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive range of programs, workshops, and trainings related to diversity. In addition, s/he will be responsible for supporting the success of students from historically underrepresented groups, as well as community college transfer students, first-generation, and undocumented students. Working in collaboration with Student Accessibility Service, the Dean of Multicultural Affairs will work to provide equal access to educational activities for all students with accessibility challenges. The Dean has direct responsibility for three important centers of student engagement on campus: Unity House, the College's Multicultural Center, the Women's Center, and the LGBTQ Resource Center. As such, the Dean of Multicultural Affairs oversees diversity programming for a wide variety of student groups; leads the bias incident response team, manages the Diversity Peer Educator program; and works closely with the Dean of the College and the Dean of Students to support students of concern and to create programming that engages all students in fulfillment of our mission: to put the liberal arts into action as citizens of a global society. The Dean of Multicultural Affairs coordinates the Mellon-Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program and supports the College's participation in the Creating Connections Consortium (C3), with particular responsibility for the C3 undergraduate summer research program. Finally, with the Dean of Institutional Equity and Inclusion, the Dean of Multicultural Affairs/Associate Dean of Institutional Equity and Inclusion works closely with the Dean of the Faculty and the Office of Human Resources to ensure the College's compliance with policies related to diversity and inclusion and to ensure a fair, equitable, and humane working environment for faculty and staff at the College. The successful candidate for this position will hold an advanced degree, Master's degree is required; a doctorate is preferred and have at least 5 years of progressively responsible administrative experience in multicultural programming, preferably in a liberal arts community; or a combination of teaching/administrative/academic advising experience in these areas and success working with diverse constituents on complex issues. The candidate must have demonstrated experience presenting and leading diversity education programming as well as facilitation and mediation skills.
