**Job Description**

VMware engineering is creating a new team to focus on solution engineering. The Engineering Solutions team focuses on leveraging partnerships and VMW engineering and product expertise to develop premium value-add, end-to-end solutions to customers.
The Software-Defined Data Center Architect works with the Product Manager and Engineering to architect the solution for the customer needs using the most appropriate technologies from VMware and partners considering costs, time-to-market, and serviceability.
Responsibilities:

* Architect and design solutions and processes using VMware and partner products and technologies

* Guide the engineering development teams in implementation of the solutions for the timely delivery of projects as per established roadmaps

* Design solutions with common software components to be shared across multiple solutions

* Build proofs-of-concept (POC) for potential customers

* Evaluate business and technical opportunities for joint development for building end to end technical solutions

* Work very closely with VMware marketing and product management organizations on the development of related field material such as whitepapers, best practice documents, and demos

* Manage relationships with multiple partners for new solution features and technical support

* Key contributor in cross-functional product teams, MRD review, development plans, and roadmap development

* Develop future solution strategies by working closely with Product Management, Technical Alliance teams, and Engineering

* Create and present technical presentations to customers and partners, and gather feedback to influence product and solution offerings Essential requirements:

* Experience in designing large scale software systems

* Hands on current experience with an OO programming language, Java preferred

* Experience leading distributed teams to design architecture and requirements for and oversee development of packaged solutions comprised of multi-vendor software/hardware, aimed at specific customer use cases, developed and sold jointly with technology partners.

* Demonstrated ability to have successfully completed multiple, complex technical project

* Demonstrated experience in authoring technical white papers as well as project conceptualization and planning

* Ability to communicate in a clear and concise professional manner, tailored to the appropriate audience; including both verbal and written communications.

* Ability to lead and work collaboratively within a business unit team and have strong influencing skills

* Ability to work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation and may require collaboration across multiple technical teams

* Must be able to manage multiple priorities and complex tasks in a dynamic work environment

* Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization

* A Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science or related technical discipline; or equivalent experience is required Desirable Requirements:

* Professional experience in VMware virtualization and cloud products, management solutions, and services

* Hands-on experience designing, installing, administering, and maintaining virtualized infrastructures based on VMware

* Expert level knowledge of x86 operating systems, advanced networking and storage architectures is desirable
