Summary:

The Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science invites applications for a full-time faculty, Clinical Sciences Education Director. We are also particularly interested in applicants with a commitment to mentoring and to increasing diversity in the fields of medicine, science and the health professions.The Clinical Sciences Education Director for Family Medicine reports to the Executive Chair, Clinical Sciences for all matters pertaining to curriculum and medical student education. S/he is responsible for the development, design, coordination, and implementation of the curriculum in his/her respective specialty. S/he is responsible for assuring comparability of educational experiences and equivalency of student assessment across all learning sites. S/he will collaborate with the Curriculum Office and the Department of Medical Education to ensure vertical integration of the curriculum across the continuum of the medical education degree program. S/he will also collaborate with the clinical site directors and teaching faculty to create clinical education experiences where such experiences will add significant value to student learning and competency.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. In collaboration with the Curriculum Office and the Department of Medical Education, develop clinical learning objectives and activities, and assure that objectives are consistent with the goals/outcomes of the Chicago Medical School across the continuum of the curriculum for all years.
2. Work with faculty including Curriculum Specialist Midlevel practitioners to prepare clinical objectives and modules for preview and approval by the Curriculum Committee.
3. Work with faculty including Curriculum Specialist Midlevel practitioners to design specific clinical curriculum components, modules, cases, and other learning activities.
4. Review and finalize the curriculum website for the discipline so that it contains the necessary communications and information for all learners.
5. Help in directing the recruitment of faculty at all regional campuses or affiliate sites, and provide orientation and direction for duties.
6. Ensure the continuity and integration of information technology applications into the clinical curriculum.
7. Monitor and supervise the delivery of the curriculum in his/her specialty by the regional campus or affiliate Site Director and faculty.
8. Develop and/or review all questions for examinations and evaluations prior to utilization within the area of responsibility.
9. Monitor educational quality to assure comparable learning experiences across campuses and affiliate sites.
10. Monitor evaluations and student performance, to assure high quality experiences and learning outcomes.
a. Review student evaluations of faculty and assist in the formulation of remediation and faculty enhancement as necessary.
b. Monitor performance data across campuses and affiliate sites to ensure comparable student experiences and compliance with the learning objectives.
11. Serve on Curriculum Committee with other Clinical Sciences Education Directors to ensure cross-disciplinary learning experiences and integration of information across activities.
12. Assign student grades based on student assessment information provided by faculty, regional campus directors, and student performance data.
13. Assist site directors, if needed, in counseling students who are having difficulty achieving learning objectives and work with faculty in the formulation of remediation plan.
14. Participate in the design, development, and approval of elective experiences in his/her clinical area.
15. Participate in the Chicago Medical School Practice Plan up to .25 FTE clinical patient care if desired.
16. Participate in medical student teaching of the medical curriculum for all years.
17. Keep in communication with the CMS Office of Student Affairs regarding issues such as students in academic difficulty, students with disabilities and scheduling.
18. Collaborate with the other faculty to plan, implement, evaluate and publish innovative activities in the undergraduate medical education discipline.
19. Obtain and manage information related to scholarly activity for all clinical faculty in the discipline.
20. Participate in faculty development seminars and workshops offered at Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University focusing on information technology methodologies, course presentation methods, and general improvements in content delivery.

Education & Experience:

* Doctor of Medicine MD, or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine DO (with Board Certification in his/her specialty if involved in the practice plan)

* Three or more years clinical patient care experience in his/her specialty

* Experience managing professionals in a complex organization

* Proven experience in management of multiple initiatives and multiple sites

* Academic faculty status at allopathic or osteopathic medical school

* Must achieve a background check clearance

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Understanding of educational pedagogy as it relates to the clinical sciences

* Demonstrated creative problem solver, with ability to innovative and build consensus around proposed solutions

* Strong verbal and written communication skills with proficiency in the use of social networking technology

Qualifications:

* Experience with LCME and/or other accrediting bodies
