**Description:**
The Principle Engineer, Data Network will serve as the senior technical resource to the Network Engineering/Operations team and technical consult to the Director of the team. This position is expected to have a highly in depth working knowledge of LAN/WAN and WiFi technologies and be able to present engineering designs and create implementation processes to deliver solutions. This position serves as the subject matter expert in the internetworking field, Cisco, Nortel/Avaya, and Foundry/Brocade switches, routers and load balancers. The Senior Engineer will be accountable for all technical decisions made in an effort to bring a solution to a trouble ticket or outage. Other proactive situations, such as change control requests, require the approval of the Director and other department heads.
*Responsibilities:*
* Serve as technical subject matter expert and provide second and third level support for the Network Operations team and Network Implementation team
* Develop effective business relationships between business staff and self/team members that are cordial, professional and productive.
* Collaborate and work effectively with other IS teams/resources in delivering required solutions.
* Manage multiple projects with the highest level of detail ensuring on time delivery of services for the CBS Corporation and its divisions.
* Ensure status reporting within the team and to the Director, Data Network communicates honest, relevant and concise details regarding progress, financials, issues/risk and change (as opposed to activity reporting).
* Overseeing projects from conception, design, managing schedules, estimating, capital project requests, securing materials and implementation required.
* Ensure sufficient redundancy for critical components are in place and functioning
* Where appropriate make suggestions for improvements.
* Ensure early warning systems are in place and functioning.
* Ability to automate routine and complex operational processes using technologies such as Perl script, Expect script, HP Network Automation and Cisco Event Manager.
* Stay abreast of new technologies that are relevant to the CBS Information, Security and Technology Organization and implement when appropriate.
* Work with the architecture, infrastructure engineering and delivery teams to ensure that the network infrastructure remains current, performs to standards and is well understood.
* Research, design, deploy and sustain configuration, process management and run books for the CBS Corporate network.
* Monitor and respond to any/all network incidents, tickets, service requests or escalations.
* Monitor network through use of logs and various network management systems.
* Ensure detailed network documentation using Visio and iTRACS PLM is maintained.
* Comply with all established processes and procedures.
* Life cycle management of routers, switches, code, and other network related equipment in the production network.
* Run data captures/decodes when necessary.
* Structured Cabling, patching and testing utilizing Fluke equipment.
* On-Call participation in 24/7 support with availability in the event of any escalations.
**Qualifications:**
Required:
* Undergraduate Degree or equivalent work experience
5-7 years total business experience (flexible with yrs. exp.)
* 5-7 years as a network technician in a large network environment.
* Proven excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Strong interpersonal skills.
* Must have heavy network "hands on" technical experience (LAN/WAN).
* Expert in routing protocols OSPF and BGP.
* Expert knowledge with Nortel Avaya Networks Ethernet Routing Switches, 8000 series chassis, 5500 and 5600 series stackables.
* Expert knowledge with Cisco ASR's, Catalyst 6500 series switches, 2800 series, 3800 series, 2900 series, and 3900 series routers.
* Expert knowledge with data center converged networking based on Cisco Nexus 7000/500012OOO architecture we well as the Nexus 1000v.
* Expert knowledge with Cisco Unified Wireless deployments, performing site surveys, design tools, heat map generation and hardware configuration.
* Expert knowledge with Site-to-Site VPN's utilizing Cisco ASA's and other Cisco routing platforms.
* Expert knowledge with Foundry/Brocade Server Irons and ADX series load balancers
* Knowledge of T1, T3, ATM, Frame-Relay, MPLS.
* Expert knowledge of structured cable system design and implementations.
* Expert knowledge of fiber systems utilizing CWDM and DWDM.
* Must have ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
