Located in the Anchorage Museum, the Server position is responsible for performing such services as the preparation, and/or serving of food and drinks in a restaurant setting.

*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*
* Promptly greets guest and takes their order.
* Presents menu, answers questions, and makes suggestions regarding food and service.
* May ask for age verification of guests unless it is obvious they are of legal drinking age.
* Writes order on check or memorizes it.
* Relays order to kitchen and serves courses from kitchen and service bars.
* Prepares drink order, to include wine and beer.
* Does not serve habitual drunkards or guests that are intoxicated.
* Observes municipal and state liquor laws.
* Garnishes and decorates dishes preparatory to serving.
* Observes diners to respond to any additional requests and to determine when meal has been completed.
* Totals up bills and accepts payments, or refers patron to Cashier.
* Pours soup, tosses salad, portions pies and desserts, brews coffee, and performs other services as required.
* Promptly clears and resets guest areas at conclusion of each course or service.
* Makes sure various food or drink items are stocked at appropriate levels.
* May note daily tips on time card when clocking out.
* May also work on a food service line to serve customers various foods or related items.
* May assist others in basic food production or other food service activities.
* May stock food line or salad bars during meal periods.
* May break down and clean service lines as well as cleans a variety of other kitchen equipment.
* Other related duties may also be assigned.

*Qualifications and Experience:*
* Must have Training for Alcohol Professionals (TAP) certification; or have been formally trained in alcohol management/serving.
o Must be of legal age to serve and prepare alcohol drinks
* Preference will be given to those candidates with at least two (2) years of experience in the hospitality or food service industry which includes knowledge of Wines.
* Some recent positive training and/or experience that included professional food handling or food preparation responsibilities.
o Such background or experience must have demonstrated a familiarity with and/or commitment to working in the food service area.
* The ability to work effectively with a minimum of supervision.
* An ability to quickly learn about the products being sold, cash register operation, site features and NMS's customer service expectations/ standards.
* Dedication to understanding and exceeding customer expectations/ needs.
* Recognition that service is a demonstrated attitude and a state of mind, not a task or step.
* Observes extensive grooming, customer service, and uniform/ dress standards.
* Certain positions require a valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy.
* Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.
*Physical Demands*: The employee must occasionally lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds.
