**Responsibilities**

The Director of Digital Strategy–New Media leads product strategy for the leading provider of foundational skills in Higher Education (Reading, Writing, Mathematics and College Readiness. In this high profile role, s/he will define the product roadmap, product portfolio, and lead design of revenue-producing solutions designed to improve college foundations effectiveness and achieve commercial success.

* The ideal candidate will have deep mastery of the product concept process: assessing market needs; gathering and synthesizing product requirements from customers; understanding the competitive environment; driving product strategy, formulating product portfolio, and roadmap development; communicating the customer value proposition and business case; and launching products which deliver a great user experience and optimize revenue.

* The Director will create a compelling vision for both standalone solutions as well as solutions that span Pearson’s digital platforms that meet the instruction, practice, and assessment needs of college foundations programs. The Director will architect the division’s product roadmap, ensuring alignment against corporate strategic goals, and keep a rolling three-year roadmap document.

* S/he will evaluate the economic attractiveness of market opportunities and develop the business case for investments required to implement the product strategy.

* The Director will implement frameworks and methodologies for product development within the division. S/he will lead each phase of the ideation process from opportunity-identification and problem framing to experience-definition and product design.

* S/he will maintain a close working relationship with the Learning Apps team and transition new media products to the learning apps team after successful market launch.  The Director will maintain a role in product strategy for even after the product transition to the Learning Apps group.

* S/he will ensure the integrity of product execution after development has been transferred to engineering teams and will collaborate cross-functionally with peers to achieve successful product launches.

* S/he will make decisions on portfolio rationalization and product retirement opportunities to maintain portfolio excellence.

* The Director will stay abreast of market trends in college foundations, gathering ideas for revenue-producing products through contact with customers and thought leaders. S/he will drive high-level discussions on the role of technology and evangelize the value of digital solutions to their mission.

* The Director of Digital Strategy participates in cross-divisional digital strategy meetings when appropriate, and is a member of the Learning Technology Advisory Group run by the Higher Education Learning Technology Officer.

* The Director will be responsible for a small team of digital editors and will recruit and hire additional staff when necessary. S/he is responsible for staff morale and development, and for creating a work environment that fosters individual excellence and collaboration.

* The Director will be responsible for managing all third party technology relationships in College Foundations with both internal and external businesses.  When necessary s/he will extend, renegotiate or cancel third party agreements, audit payments, and resolve disputes.  The Director will also be responsible for finding and signing new third party technology or content providers who will enhance the customer value of College Foundations products.

* The Director will ensure the efficacy of our new media products per the guidelines put forth by Pearson’s efficacy team.

* This position reports to the VP Director Digital Strategy, College Foundations, with heavy daily interaction with editorial, marketing, and technology support teams. The position has full P&L responsibility for digital product revenue and profitability.
